Blowfly Blowfly's Punk Rock Party HAHAHAHAHA! Oh man, this is awesome. Well, partially awesome. There's 19 tracks here (25, if you count the edited versions) and there's bound to be some filler but the ones that work, work really well. I Wanna Be Fellated, Should I Fuck This Big Fat Ho?, R. Kelly In Cambodia, you get the picture. I must've looked like a weirdo, laughing to myself while delivering mail today. Best song - I Wanna Fuck Your Dog Keep

Boris with Merzbow Walrus/Groon I love Boris but this was just annoying. It's a pretty good cover of I Am The Walrus but it sounds like someone is playing it through a shitty TEAC tape deck and also added one of those air popcorn poppers in for good measure. The b-side was a little better, mostly because it was just noise, but it's nothing I'd rush to put on again. I guess I just don't get Merzbow. Best song - Groon Toss

Born Ruffians s/t ep Sounds like someone's in love with Modest Mouse. I'm not a fan of MM outside of a few songs so I guess that can carry over to this band. I think the singer's voice is probably even more annoying than the dude in Clap Your Hands Say Yeah. At least that band has something musically interesting going on so you can kinda deal with the singer's voice but this was just unimpressive all around. I had 2 other songs in this folder that apparently aren't on the ep and those showed a little promise but overall this wasn't good. Best song - Quattro Toss

Boys Noize Oi Oi Oi This is somewhere between Daft Punk and Justice but not as good as either of them. It's still a decent record but I think he's got a bit more to go to get in their league. His remix of Feist's My Moon My Man is excellent though and that cover art makes me want to get the plastic skull in my living room and do the same to it. Best song - Don't Believe The Hype Keep

The Brakes The Beatific Visions

That's who I first thought of when I heard the singer. But wait, he's not Irish...

Image

That's who came to mind next.

Ok, he actually sounds a lot like Ade Blackburn of Clinic but if Clinic was a lot blander. The music is probably the best thing about this. There's some decent guitar and the songs aren't that bad but add his vocals and it's too much for me to bear. The Pitchfork review of this compared them to The Hold Steady, which I guess I can hear, but I like Craig Finn's lyrics more than Eamon Hamilton and his spazzy vocals work a lot better too with this type of music. Best song - No Return Toss

Brand New The Devil And God Are Raging Inside Me I kinda blew off listening to this for awhile because I liked a few songs off their last album, Deja Entendu, but it was still a little too Saves The Day for me. I guess you could still consider them emo-ish but there's some really good songs on here that move into territory occupied by bands you wouldn't be too ashamed of listening to (Foo Fighters, Weezer, Jimmy Eat World). Best song - Not The Sun Keep

Bright Eyes Cassadaga, Four Winds ep

Ryan Adams with better lyrics. I'm not really into this shit.

Best songs - Make A Plan To Love Me, Four Winds Toss

metronomy nights out this was mostly bleh. i thought i read about them being compared to late of the pier or klaxons but a lot of elements of the songs seems to clash against each other and it doesn't make for a good listen. even the song i really liked, heartbreaker, has a squeaky door/bed sound in it that would probably get real annoying after awhile.
best song - heartbreaker toss

nicole atkins digs other people's songs i like neptune city a lot but this reeks of filler. under the milky way is one of the most boring covers i've ever heard. even when i saw her live a few weeks ago, it seemed pretty ho-hum though a couple of the new songs were decent.
best song - inside of love toss

it's never given me problems other than having to replace the battery a couple of years ago unlike the 73 different "my ipod sucks" threads every few months.
