The official nomination of Obama caught me off-guard yesterday. I was watching with a 'ho-hum' attitude. My main interest was just to see the nomination become official so the Dems could get on with their business. I expected to respond with a "thank god thats over" attitude.

But then they announced the nomination and I realized "Holy Shit! A black man has actually been nominated for president (and has a reasonable chance of winning)."

I cried for a good 10 minutes.

Just my thoughts on what I'd seen at the convention...I'm not sure why you consider it any less relevant than bitching about cable network coverage for 2 pages of posts when the full thing was broadcast uninterrupted on CSPAN.

In short--bite me.

Did anyone watch any of the republican talk-back on Larry King? The 9/11 spat was pretty amusing.

I heard a real black person correct this on NPR: he's not black, he's bi-racial.

Anyway, I liked Obama's speech. He done real good.

Anybody see Al Gore? I know that he is a passionate and intelligent man, but damned if he doesn't speak like the computer from War Games.

"Shall we play a game?"

he's black enough to get followed around a retail store by a shopclerk, so he's black enough for me.

Seriously though, FemDerris was almost moved to tears last night. Granted she had been out with a friend and had almost a bottle of wine when we watched but still, she is wrapped WAY too tight for this campaign.

If things don't work out I'll have to put a 48 hour watch on her the day after the election.

Other comments, "Michelle Obama isn't smiling very much. She seems pretty rigid for his speech".

Me: "Well, cut her a little slack, it's only the biggest moment in her husband's life"

Damn convention... I was watching that when I should have seen the Cubs cone from behind again! Could've seen Aramis' grand slam to win the ballgame,

Oh well.

I had mixed feelings about the speech. I didn't think he had as much of the prettified language in there that I personally tend to enjoy. But, he answered most all of the questions being asked of him. He gave some concrete proposals and between the film beforehand and the speech itself gave the public a real solid idea of who he is and how that differs from who the republicans are nominating. And, while the language was more basic and direct, I see that sort of thing being more effective politically.

I think the movie was a really nice touch and painted a vivid picture of a candidate with a life story way closer to that of a typical American than many people expected to see from him.

I was a bit disappointed in how much it was framed as how bad the Republicans have been rather than how good the Democrats would be. But, considering the current climate, I guess that's inevitable.

I was somewhat caught up in the moment. But, I don't cry watching TV because I have testicles.

Out of the speeches I saw, Hillary's was best and then Bill's because of their humor.

Obama was effective because he was almost deadly serious about his passion for fixing the country. I loved his comment about he and McCain are passionate about America and how they shouldn't attack each other, but debate policies.

Clearly you've never seen Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. haha

I caught the tail end of Obama's speech. Continually impressed with his ability to communicate. I tuned in right as he started finishing up while quoting/paraphrasing MLK.

I hope his talk, if elected, translates well into action.

Alaska Gov. Palin is McCain's VP pick

Sen. John McCain has chosen Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin to be his vice-presidential candidate on the Republican ticket for the White House, CNN has learned. The 44-year-old Palin, now in her first term as governor, is a pioneering figure in Alaska, the first woman and the youngest person to hold the state's top political job

Good move. I hate their policies on virtually everything, but good political moves are not rare for the Republicans.

My guess is that they chose her just so that Tina Fey could mock her on SNL. My god, they must be sisters, or at least cousins.

OMG! Joe Biden is totally NOT hot. Can Obama, like, change his VP choice to Hayden Panettiere?!?!?

Glad to know that the GOP VP Nom is probably somehow involved in Ted Stevens' corruption trial.
