You're right about it being a shitfest, but he meant it to be ironic. Failed at that miserably, but he meant we should worry and we shouldn't be happy. Doesn't make the song any better, of course.

I don't care if he made it as a great experiment to find out if American would eat up the largest pile of bile sauce ever recorded, I'll still curse his smarmy ass for unleashing his stupid fucking mouth noises all over that horrendous and inherentely evil song.

Oh, and I called it an assfest, not a shitfest. There's a very distinct difference.

Not even Clown Princes Williams And Irwin could sway Nathan from his revenge.

McFerrin did have the sense to stop trying to be a pop star and went on to conduct orchestras and stuff, but that doesn't stop the severe damage already done.

He weren't no Petra Haden.

Yes, conducting an orchestra really gives a man instant credibility.

Wait a minute, are you Bobby McFerrin?

Why, I'm dumb for stating something I notice in Phish fans. Besides, I wasn't criticizing anyone for "selling out" or "making money" I was criticizing their fans for being meatheads that have bad taste.

No, you're dumb because because by saying that Phish fans are "meatheads and have bad taste", you are saying that I am a meathead and have bad taste because I am a Phish fan. Neither are true but I appreciate the sentiment.

The rest of the post had nothing to do directly with your post. I addressed that with five words in the beginning and was pretty satisfied. Still am.

Sorry to confuse you there, chief.

Phish is retarded and their fans are meatheads.

I'll let their taste speak for itself.

Oh, sailor.

Sure.

It's:

McFerrin, Bobby - 826 Broadway #400, New York, NY 10003

Wear something pirate-like, like that Keith Richards in that Caribbean movie.

E gads.

The issue is thus:

Those jam bands in question are, on the one hand, talented musicians (I notice nobody's questioning that), and put out music that's pretty understandably enjoyed by lots of folks, both smelly and not so smelly. BUT, anyone who's attended those shows (myself included) has damn-sure seen a ton of kids in "druggy" attire, smelling of patchouli (at best) and trading burgers for weed in the parking lot... it's silly, but pretty tame, really. There are worse fan bases out there.

Yep. Fine example.

That's the crux of it... Stupid kids who think that looking the part at a phish show is mandatory aren't any dumber than jaded towny hipsters who are too concerned about image to admit liking anything the slightest bit "mainstream."

Fail to realize this at your own peril.

Agreed, Ky and I guess it would be just as easy to say that indie fans are whiney bitches who don't really enjoy music, they just collect it like comic books based on the fact that every show I went to at the 40 Watt consisted of a bunch of kids in glasses standing there just staring at the band and mumbling under their collective breaths. But that wouldn't be fair at all. I mumble. I wear glasses.

The truth is, I could give a fuck but I do it take it personally when people generalise things that I happen to like or in particular where I am from (the south, that is)

Pardon me, I have to go put in a chew, fuck my sister, and beat my black slaves.

Well, I mean, it's a little offensive, yeah, but really the thing about it to me, right off the bat, is that is just so easy. "Phish fans stink" is right up there with jokes about airlines. Why bother.

The three times they were up at Loring, I only smelled about a third of them. The other two-thirds were driving cars that would take me at least two years wages to afford.

The head of a major division here at work is a HUGE phish fan. And a hell of a guy. He could buy and sell my ass, I suppose, but he's more interested in trading music!

Oh, and he smells terrific.

You imagine correctly.

And look, I'm trying to helpful re: Phish. If you like Phish, you have awful taste in music and are likely extraordinarily mentally retarded. This isn't even a subjective thing, it's the fucking gospel.

That would be the Gospel of the Holy Townie Asshole, correct? Because I think they're the only ones who even have a gospel...

I could be wrong.

Where does "andyfest" fit in to all of this? I hope I'm at least above assfest.
