If I had to describe it off the top of my head...I'd say it's a high gravity English Strong Ale that has a bold profile from fine British malts, woodsy and estery aromas from traditional British ale yeast, and bittering from Styrian Bobek hops. The addition of Sterling hops provides a hint of spiciness on the nose. These flavors combined with a bright cheery redolence create a savory "Auld Ale" that will warm the dreariest of winter nights.

...Ok, so I stink at describing beer other than "hoppy" or "dark" so I took that from this site:

A guy down in the warehouse goes to a chilli cookoff contest every year, and it's this weekend. At this cookoff, a tiny local brewery out where he lives west of here shows up with growlers and kegs. They don't even sell in Boston or Cambridge. He (and others down there in the warehouse) swear by their stuff. So I gave him $11 and he's gonna pick me up a growler of their double bock. Report to follow.

I've got six of these sitting in my garage right now. Too bad I'm trying to lose weight.

I will be attending this Beer Festival in 2 weeks. Several of the brewers mentioned in this thread will be in attendance (Rogue, Stone, Highland, the Dogs both Flying and Fish Head.) I've enjoyed reading your reviews. Just trying to perform my due diligence so that I can hit up some of the better Regional Brewers early in the day, before it turns into complete and utter debauchery. At which time, the length of line is more important than what they are serving up!

Looks like a pretty solid brewfest. I hope to go to the one here in September again, as I missed out on it this past year.

It's not that great except for the abv which is a nice 9%.

With dogfish head, I like the ideas, but the final product is never that great.

I had it on tap, rather than the usual large bottle. I wouldn't say it was one of my favorite IPA's after one pint glass, but it wasn't too bad.

I've only had 4 of their beers(60 and 90 MinIPA, Theorboma, WW Stout) I'd probably only ever pay for the WW Stout again, but at $10.00/bottle that's not gonna happen anytime soon. I'm open to their stuff, if I see the Squall I'm down to try it.

I bought a 6 pack of Kirin Ichiban the other day, since it had been a lot of years since I had one. Sumo piss. Horrible. Going to have to drink a couple of these to clear the slime off my tongue:

I got the growler. They didn't have what I wanted, so he got me the IPA because he swears it's really good.

I gotta figure out when I can sit down and drink 64 ounces of IPA.

I went on a beer run to a local liquor store that I hadn't yet shopped at. My trip to the store was to procure Iron City. Here is my overall list of purchases in a mix and match 6-pack and a few extra bottles.

Sprecher Irish Stout Ale

Answer = Saturday.

It wasn't bad, kinda dry, and certainly fine and all, but not amazing. On par with all the other regular IPA's out there. $11 pre-deposit is not the best price for 4 big glasses of good IPA, though. So there's that. I'd try their other offerings, if I could, I guess.

It tastes so metallic - almost like licking a nine volt battery and downing a CL Smooth.

YES. Tastes like you're sucking on a handful of pennies.

So a great beer snob store apparently opened less than a mile from my house a few months ago and I didn't even know about it. I went this past weekend and it is indeed awesome. I hope to join in the beer games in this thread in the future. They have a mix and match 6-pack wall that I hit up but it's still a little lacking as of yet. They have rows and rows of larger bottled stuff though.

So far I only sipped on the following yesterday:

Kona Brewing Co. - Longboard

Meh. Could've just had a Bud Light

Bell's Sparkling Ale-

Not bad. I'm not a big fan of Tripels to begin with though.

Boulder Brewing Co. - Hazed and Infused

Liked this. Dry hopped Ale. Really light and went well with some chips and salsa and chili.

I bought some other heavier stuff that I haven't gotten to yet (Smuttynose, Full Sail) but I kept it light for football yesterday.

And why would you know what that taste like?
I can't bust Loogar on the 9v, since even I've done that on a dare.
I wasn't familiar with the CL Smooth term for Coors Light, it's always the Bullet or Silver Bullet around here.

I honestly didn't think Iron City was that bad. I think it was closer to Blatz or Schmidt in the taste rankings than it was to Mountain Crest, Pigs Eye or Steel Reserve.

GOOD! i'm not a huge fan of this brewery, but this was a solid, creamy stout. it's definitely a sipper...strong...just the right hint of bourbon, along with a little chocolate sweetness.

I bought a 4-pack of these, and damn were they tasty. Thick, and sweet.
