I think he has to be. Foley has given him the dreaded vote of confidence, but losing to Georgia Southern is...unacceptable.

FWIW, people are already wondering if Georgia can hire him to be our DC after he gets fired, haha. (Muschamp played at Georgia)

Congrats to the Huskers on their victory last Saturday. Three overtime wins at home was probably too much to ask. The game certainly didn't mean much in a larger national/conference scope of things, and the Badgers will no doubt hand our asses to us this Saturday. That said year's seniors stuck with the program when they didn't have to, and it was great to see O'Brien pay tribute to them post-game.

The Huskers should have won the game in regulation by at least two touchdowns, but I guess I should simply be happy that Nebraska has a kicker that can make a 42yd FG in OT. They had one touchdown run by Ameer Abdullah that was negated by what was a questionable call according to Husker fans, and he fumbled the ball away near the endzone earlier in the game.

If Nebraska beats Iowa once again in Lincoln on Friday, then they will most likely get completely annihilated by an SEC team that could have easily been be playing in a BCS bowl this year if they were in any other conference. Right now, it seems like Nebraska vs LSU in the Outback Bowl is the likely choice, but there opponent could easily be Mizzou or South Carolina if they end up in the Gator Bowl.

Sark bolts for USC.

I'd be surprised if Jim Mora is not named the coach at Washington within the week.

I hope not. Washington deserves better.

I'm amazed that Orgeron didn't eat Pat Haden, literally, when he gave him the news.

I guess he's staying with UCLA.

Other candidates: Justin Wilcox, Doug Nussmeyer, Chris Peterson. Hmmm.

Yeah, I thought he might be a lifer. ESPN Stats just tweeted that Boise, LSU, and Oklahoma are the only FBS schools with 8 straight 8-win seasons. A bit apples/oranges, but dude makes the most of what he has. Will be interesting to see how he pans out on a larger stage.

I was surprised to hear it as well.

I hope he can make Washington into a perennial contender in the P12--I think Washington is one of those "college football is better when they're good" schools.

My alma mater SLU Lions have advanced to the quarters in the FCS playoffs, while making their first playoff appearance in school history! QB Bryan Bennett (Oregon transfer) is the real deal.

It's the season. The annual reminder of the shittiest post season in sports.

Dawgs get the Huskers again. Good luck Gator Bowl PR team.

Also, Fiesta Bowl bringing the heat!

The bowl projections on Sunday morning were far more promising than the actual bowl match-ups. I really don't know what what goes on behind closed doors when they make these selections, but there must be some serious bribes involved to make certain bowl executives make such head scratching decisions.
The Gator Bowl didn't pick Minnesota because they believe they won't travel well, but there are only a few Nebraska fans who have publicly went on record saying they are going to attend the rematch.
I'm pretty sure the Big 12 has some secret contractual clause with the Big Ten that prevented the Huskers from playing Kansas State in Tempe, since that seemed like a sure bet prior to late Sunday afternoon.
If I watch this game, the only reason I will be watching it is to see if the Blackshirts can actually contain Gurley and keep it close.

Word is that Bill Snyder threw a hissy fit upon hearing about a pairing with the Huskers. Apparently he hates Pelini stemming from something a decade ago?

I don't know. People around here are less than enthused about the matchup. No offense to Nebraska but we just did this game. People here wanted to play Michigan for the first time in 50 years or something. That would've sold tickets. Or maybe a SEC/Pac 12 match up? UCLA?

All adds up to more frustration for all college football fans with the bowl season.

Bowl tie-ins ruin the season. ACC got 11 teams in?? WTF?

Pelini got upset when KSU allegedly ran up the score on the Huskers during Senior Day 2003 during his first and only season as Defensive Coordinator, but I figured they settled their difference during his tenure as a Big 12 coach.
Pelini was 3-0 against KSU as a head coach, and none of the games were particularly close. Bill Snyder is actually pretty close friends with Tom Osborne, and I figured the regional appeal and recent rivalry would appeal to his senses, since beating Nebraska was sort of the yardstick on a successful season for the Wildcats.

didn't hear this one. from what source? would've been a fine match-up - can't fathom bill shying away from this or any game

38-9 is hardly a run-up in score considering the history.

i think he's got snyder 3-2 if you consider 2003 when bo was interim HC. then came the ron prince years. and while beating nebraska was always celebrated (only during football season), it hardly dictated a successful season. hate to burst your bubble. but that's very presumptuous of you.

Pelini was an interim coach for one game, the bowl game against Michigan State, and he won it, so his head coaching record was 1-0 until he took the job after the Callahan era.
It wasn't the final score that Pelini took issue with, he got mad because it was Senior day in Lincoln and Snyder allowed Ell Roberson to throw a touchdown pass against mostly 2nd and third string defenders in the fourth quarter to make the score 31-7. He also kept Darren Sproles in the game until the last minute.
Solich had essentially conceded defeat when the game was 24-7, and he was trying to allow many of the Seniors to get in some playing time.
I don't blame Snyder for trying to kick the Huskers while they were down, but the vast majority of the blowouts in the history of the series were over by halftime and the Devaney/Osborne led Huskers never needed to pass in the fourth quarter to pad the score line. They simply ran the ball up the middle with the fullback and a myriad of back up running backs.

Another notch in the belt of bloated and expanding sports failures on a national stage for Minnesota.

As I mentioned on FB, I didn't watch any of the Nebraska game except for a replay of the 99yd touchdown pass, but the Huskers are still unbeaten in the Gator Bowl.
I'm glad Nebraska won, but I was far more impressed with how well the Blackshirts did of containing Todd Gurley today. I thought he might run roughshod over a vulnerable run defense like he did against Georgia Tech during OT.
The Huskers might end up being the only Big Ten team to pull out a victory this year, so it is hard to complain about the start of 2014.

Congrats on the win, Prom. It didn't seem like either team wanted to be there, and we wanted to to be there even less than the Cornhuskers.

I'm not convinced Hudson Mason is the answer at QB; weve got some other guys in the pipeline, hopefully Richt will give everybody a fair shot.

Well done, Huskers, (EDIT: Tigers, et al... D'oh!). Condolensces to Dawgs, Badgers, Gophers, et al.

Didn't get to watch the Rose Bowl, but it looks like Michigan State is the team most expected from Ohio State before the season started. Hope they can maintain.

Penn State head coach Bill O'Brien is now heading to the Houston Texans. I've read a column suggesting Detroit would be a better fit for him, but perhaps he's more drawn to grooming Bridgewater from scratch. I think his departure really hurts recruiting, but I would have never expected 15-9 record no matter how weak the Big Ten is these days. The only Paterno assistant to survive the washout, Larry Johnson Sr., is the internim head coach (likely to minimze recruiting fallout) while they look for a new head. Some eyes are pointing to Vanderbilt's Franklin for PSU or Texas. Who knows?

So, that Iowa defense was No. 7 in the country? Even more evidence of the overall weakness of the BIG10.
