Yeah, I bought Heartbreaker the day it came out...and was quite dissapointed. (It grew on me a bit, but overall, what's the big fucking deal?)

I bought Rock and Roll the day it came out, and thought (and think) it rocks.

I like Heartbreaker but do think it has a lot of filler on it. Still, the good songs are his best in my opinion. I think song-for-song Gold is probably my favorite but is also the most catchy.

I also bought Rock and Roll the day it came out and badly wanted to be the only one I knew who loved it but it just never caught on with me. I like 'Wish You Were Here' but that's about it.

I'll be buying the new one today if I can get to a record store.

Lucero rules. I have 'That Much Further West' but need anything else they've put out. Great album.

i'm not a huge fan of adams' solo stuff, or at least not as much as i was of whiskeytown, and the above statement pretty much sums my feelings up too.

so i've only heard disc 1, but this is how it's shaping up for me:

heartbreaker >> gold >> demolition > cold roses > love is hell > rock'n'roll

but it's close from demo to hell. nothing about the cd or individual tracks really stand out -- it's just consistently good stuff.

[EDIT: i include the bonus disc in my evaluation of "gold"]

I've only listened to the second disc once, and I liked it. I think the title track is stellar.

I think Gold sucked. Had some good songs on it, but most of them were ruined by the production, and the rest were vanilla. Gold kept me away from everything else he put out. So this Adams second chance with me, and so far I'm glad I gave it to him.

I agree with this. Although I think it's the most solid all the way through, the thing that bothers me when listening to it is the production. Just too polished. I just think it's his album with the most good songs, not necessarily the best songs.

Now I 've listened to the whole thing once, and I like it alot on a first impression. In fact I might like it more than everything else he's ever done. I thought only one song totally sucked - How do you Keep Love Alive. Seemed kind of Richard Marx to me. Blossom didn't do much for me either but it wasn't horriffic.

People can go on about it being a double disc, but I 'm glad. It's a nice break. Each disc is the perfect length. More artist should break their music up as long as they don't charge more. I much rather this than 17 songs jammed on one disc b/c there is that much space.

I actually enjoyed Rock N Roll quite a bit when it came out, though I will admit that it is far far far from his best work. Also got suckered into buying both the Love is Hell ep's before it was released as an LP. But so far I must say that Cold Roses is a wonderful record, though I'm not sure which of the two discs I enjoy more right now.
