From NME:

Quote:
GRANDADDY BACK WITH MINI ALBUM

Californian indie rockers GRANDADDY are to release a new mini-album later this year.

The band release the seven-track ’Excerpts From The Diary Of Todd Zilla’ on October 3 through V2. It’s the Modesto outfit’s first new material since their 2003 album ’Sumday’, and will be followed in early 2006 with a new full-length studio album.

The tracklisting for ’Excerpts From The Diary Of Todd Zilla’ is:

’Pull My Curtains’
’At My Post’
’A Valley Son (Sparing)’
’Cinderland’
’Fuck The Valley Fudge’
’Florida’
’Goodbye’

An extra track, ’Hidden Health Announcement’, will be available only on the limited vinyl version released on Devil In The Woods.

As previously reported on NME.COM, some of the songs that have been completed for the forthcoming new full-length album are ’Campershell Dreams’, ’Disconnecty’, ’Where I’m Anymore’ and ’Jeez Louise’.

In other sensational news, frontman Jason Lytle has shaved off his beard.

What is the difference between an EP and a mini-album?

I'll be picking this up. Thanks Tania!

It's pretty good, but man, it's hard to say these guys are pushing the envelope.

Is it better than Sumday? Like, a lot better?

I'd really like to like these guys again, but they've got a lot to make up for.

My guess. An EP is a planned short release, a mini album starts as a full album but never fully completed due to laziness or too many bong tokes?
I'll still have to pick it up.

It's rocker, rougher, and less themey. I like it better than Sumday.

Am I the only one here to prefer Sumday over whatever Sophtware Slump tracks they heard?

I'd prefer Under a Western Freeway out of all of their output.

I had a dream about Grandaddy last night. I'm not sure why-I've only heard a handful of tracks. Maybe I have the ability to see into the future of what other obnish will post. weird.

It's funny you should put it that way because I feel like Sophtware Slump functions much better as a whole than Sumday, which for me is just a soporific haze. Some of the individual tracks are pretty good when taken by themselves, though.

If you like Sumday but never listened to Sophtware Slump in its entireity, you should correct that. And if you haven't heard A Pretty Mess By This One Band and Under the Western Freeway, you should correct that, too.

Probably not, but you should try giving Sophtware Slump a straight-through listen sometime. Good stuff, and works really well as an album.

As for this EP, there is so much stuff that just sounds like I've heard it before. And not just because Grandaddy's got a signature sound - a lot of the melodies seem culled from prior tracks, but I'm too lazy to work out which ones.

I'm altering my review. After further consideration, this EP is at best half good. The songs degrade in quality noticibly from tracks 1-6, with 5 and 6 ("Fuck the Valley Fudge", which is about making Fudge that represents Lytle's bittersweet relationship with the LA Valley, and "Florida") being easily the worst and goofiest tracks. 7 is better than those, but hardly great.

I can see why they didn't try to stretch this into an LP

Haq has this leaked or are you just taking advantage of some poor music writer?

I loved Sophtware and Sumday but I don't know how I feel about this. Some of the tracks feel like they're missing something or, I don't know, it's too poppy or something.

I'm really not sure what it is but I listened to the EP twice and I don't really like it.
