I know i heard this album a few times way back when, but not in probably 12-15 years.

Its allegedly "seminal"

Hook a brother up and i'll tell you why it sucks or doesn't.

I own it, occasionally play it, but do not subscribe to the popular view that it's the greatest thing ever recorded.

I find it to be too herky-jerky for my taste, I'm not a big fan of the free-form atonal thing.

Harry Monster's former s.o. is a big proponent of this album. She is an awesome girl. This album is pretty meh.

BUT, since I dismiss it out of hand, you will probably become obsessed with it, and play it just to annoy me.

dude. I have it but I won't be around the computer all weekend.

If you're going to tackle this one give it PLENTY of time because it's a monster. It's a double album and there's so much going on in it.

Loog would hate it but I dig it.

There is a LOT going on.
I've had it 10 years, and still haven't been able to wrap my mind around the whole thing. Just a lack of patience, I think. But there is some amazing stuff on there.

It's a really excellent album. I've had it for two years now, and have listened to it a countless number of times, but it still sounds fresh on every listen. Quite different from the rest of the SST catalogue.

I think it's pretty good. One thing that keeps it from being great is the vocals. It's better in spurts than listening to the whole thing.

40 or so songs all clocking about a half minute with goofy titles? It's like Anal Cunt played two speeds too slow.

HA! Unfortunately I can't leave here until 5 and then I will be immediately taking the mexican blackbird to Mobile to stay with Loog tonight.

Rolling in tomorrow morning, hopefully beer in hand by 11am.

I'll be setting the mood for the weekend by playing "Straight Outta Compton" immediately. For the strippers I prefer Warrant's "Cherry Pie".

It's that trademark unpredictability that Loog keeps reminding us of, though he is completely secure in his person.

This is pretty easy to predict someone hating, especially me.

I doubt its fey enough for you, but if enough people say its good, you'll be there to namecheck it nonetheless.

I begining to think these love spats are pre planned by the Senator and Haq to keep this board interesting, and thus prevent a mass exodus tomorrow when CMJ reopens for business.

I've probably listened to DNOTD an average of once a week every week for twenty years and have never gotten tired of it.

Absolutely a favorite.

Bloor-
I love this record, but have had it for a very long time and have always been fascinated by the Minutemen. I think like a lot of "seminal" punk records, factors beyond the music come into play.

Understanding the band's take on politics (national, international and the ones surrounding the music industry), Boon's death & legacy, and their general philosphy makes thia a much more enjoyable record.

I was fortunate enough to get this record when I was pretty young, but I think if I was exposed to it now as an adult, I might be "meh" about it too.

If nothing else, Mike Azeraad wrote a fantastic piece on the Minutemen in the "Our band could be your Life" book- hell, the book's title is a line from History Lesson Part 2, so he is a pretty reliable source.

I hope you like it- it's one of my all time favorites.
