I'm surprised and delighted to find that the latest Hanoi Rocks albums are in fact, pretty good. I'm working on a best of mix right now but its going to take a lot of work....so many side projects to include over the years that are now hard to find.

i heard one song off 12 shots on the rocks the other day that was pretty good, though it's not nearly as memorable as their earlier stuff. i haven't heard the newer album though.

i downloaded that up around the bend...the definitive collection awhile ago and it's got a pretty good mix of stuff. even some of the live tracks are worth listening to and i can't stand live albums.

Are we talking Mayor of Casterbridge-style wife swapping or Mike Kekich & Fritz Peterson-style wife swapping.

I should probably be clear on this concept before I run out and order a wife.

i think there would be a cool tv show, where famous musicians exchange music collections, stereos and equipment with another musician for a week and see how they get by

Off topic, but is the The 101ers album worth it for a major Clash fanatic?

What's on that DM anthology?

Also, what's your take on The Shazam? I heard "RU Receiving" and ordered everything I could off Amazon used based on the strength of that song.

I haven't heard The Diodes in ages. That's on CD now?

I always thought we should do an Obner "Trading Spaces". $200 to play, and another member spends it for you.

Billz - I've got a couple Shazam records. From what I know of yer taste, you'll at least like 'em. You may not fall in love with 'em, but you'll at least like 'em.

Rads - am I correct in my assumption that "The Sports" = late 70's power pop...or am I confusing them with someone else?

CD Swapping, def. If I had a wife, I certainly wouldn't be sharing her like so much chattle with a bunch of dirty dogs. Blech. My face goes down there!

Radcliffe, are you familiar with the words "Guantanamo Bay"?

I haven't heard The Diodes in ages. That's on CD now?

The Dom Mariani anthology is aces. 14 songs from the DM3 albums, plus two singles and an instrumental from the Road to Rome sessions. 8 songs from the Stems, 6 from the Someloves, 1 from the Stoneage Hearts, 3 from the Majestic Kelp, 1 from the Stonefish, and 2 from the DM solo album Homespun Blues And Greens. I could quibble over some of the omissions, but I can't argue with what's included. Definitely makes a case that Mariani is one of the most unjustly ignored artists of the last 20 years.

I had the Shazam's previous album (God Speed the Shazam) and found it kinda meh. Ended up selling it. But this Tomorrow The World is quite an improvement. They still haven't hit it outta the park, but they at least show they have the potential.

And the Diodes disc is their 2 first albums in their entirety. They pretty much hit their apex with song #1 on the debut (the cover of Paul Simon's "Red Rubber Ball"), and everything else is, IMO, bordering on dreadful. For some reason, the comp doesn't include their later single "Strange Times", which was actually pretty good.

And Audiobill - that TRB album is a treat to listen to again. Hard to believe Tom Robinson caught the suck so quickly after that debut.

ATTN: YAIL BLOOR - you MUST throw the TRB song "Power In The Darkness" onto your Bingo Night playlist. Just be near an exit when it plays.

You are correct, sir. A little like Jo Jo Zep or the Kursaal Flyers - somehow a touch of R&B and reggae influences plus a whole lotta pub rock turned into power pop perfection.
