I'm listening to it right now and really enjoying it a lot. It's pretty unusual, I'll say that for sure. And for this, I feel thankful.

Dalen, what are you thoughts?

Is this a new album? Or are you referring to one of their songs?

I thought that the first couple of times I heard 'Blueberry Boat' now I'm a big fan.

I liked Gallowsbird's bark and the EP. This is pretty terrible. It's one of those things you need to hear for yourself.

Maybe a few more listens. I'm just finding it incredibly jarring and obnoxious at this point.

other than Dressy Bessy, probably the record I was looking forward to the most this year.

I don't even consider myself a fan of Fiery Furnaces, but "unusual" and "jarring" makes it sound like its right up my alley. What's the release date on this? Hopefully not October...that's going to be a ridiculously expensive month.

If you're not a fan of FF, I definitely would not recommend hearing this album. If you found Blueberry Boat off-putting or annoying in the slightest, you might possibly sustain a burst aneurysm listening to this. It's definitely unusual and pretty unique. I can't think of anything similar to it.

I'd YSI it to you but I don't have the whole album. I got if from Usenet and some parts were incomplete. I'm missing a couple of tracks.

Blueberry Boat is actually the only album of theirs I've liked so far. Sure, it's too long and overblown, but there's some great stuff on it (particulary the first 4 songs - what a great stretch of music.)

I liked the EP when I first got it, but there's nothing on it that makes me ever want to hear it again. This new one, from the descriptions, sounds interesting though.

I got no problem with off-putting and jarring when it comes to FF.

I think they're great fun, but not because they're brilliant and deep or anything. FF are clever and knowingly ridiculous, but if you take them too seriously you miss the point of excessive noodling, way too many lyrics and winking experimentation. The point being they're having fun being over the top.

I wouldnt sell their music that short. Of course they're pretty clever, but I dont think they really try to be "over the top" or ridiculous. I think they're great story tellers, and musically, I think they try to have fun w/out caring too much about other opinions--so that might come across as seeming "knowingly" ridiculous, but I think the band is just into what they're into.

Yeah, you're right. They're not like King Missile or Type O Negative or Mr. Bungle-ridiculous (though I like all of them). I love a lot of their lyrics. They make for clever reading even without the music and they're got a massive crapload of musical ideas and absorbed influences & styles shooting out of every ADD-influenced pore.

I think they're extremely inventive musicians, if limited singers. They're not very interested in verse-chorus but that's pretty cool most of the time.

I had Blueberry Boat as my #2 last year and it'd probably still be in the top 5. Listen to Gallowsbird more though. Still haven't bought EP, though the songs I've heard are really good.

Where are you guys listening to the new one?
