I'm sure there is a thread somewhere in the dusty back pages of Obner on this but I'm just to lazy to look.
Watched "The Concert for George" tonight and it was MUCH better than expected. Even the 45 minute Ravi Shankar peice at the start was worth watching (Ravi's daughter, I fuh).
I do have to admit I'm an agnostic when it comes to sitar music without a trancey beat and a couple of E pills (and that was the late 90's).
I don't really know GH's solo work. I know the Beatles pretty well, my favorite being the early years through the White Album (which is by FAR one of my all time favs). Everyone has their favorite beatle and mine was John. I have much appreciation for his solo work and know it back and forth. I could go on and on here but i won't.
Before the late 90's, and the E pills, a local radio station had a weekend where they played nothing but Rolling Stones and Beatles sets back to back and my life was forever changed. I think they were doing sets of three, and I remember vividly the precise moment when they tried to follow up a DEADLY set of the Stones (I don't remember the songs, just insert any that You feel could incite a riot and drive young white girls into a frenzy) and followed it up with "Maxwell's Silver Hammer." I became and forever will be a disciple of Mick and Keif. I was 14 or so.
My father came home one day with the Travelling Willbury's album. A record that turned me on to Petty, Orbison (God rest his soul), and expanded my intrest in Dylan. The latter I had become familiar with from Pop's rekkids, but had never heard ANYTHING like "Tweeter and the Monkeyman" (I won't bother typing the lyrics to the first verse in hopes that you ALL are familiar with them). GH's "Handle me with Care" was great but I didn't feel the need to become more familiar with him as I did the others. GH and Jeff Lynne, who the fuck is that guy anyway?
Anyway I'm rambling. Iliked how this was Eric's show, I liked the Monty Python bits, this DVD is qual.
Kind of cool including George's son on stage. He definitely bother's me less than Sean and Juliian Lennon. I just hope we don't ever have to hear from him again.
