Yay for me!

I'm not entirely giddy about it at the moment, but in a day or two, once I get a chance to really fill it up with music, and once I get used to the feel of it and stop handling it like it's going to fall apart on me (which is how I handle most new things of mine), I'll be really into it and stuff.

I bought the recently discontinued version, the iHP 120, as the new version seems like bullshit to me. I don't want a color screen. Fuck that.

Just thought I'd share.

Color screen would be so gangsta.

Well, the new version doesn't come with a remote.

Remotes are gangstaer.

Awesome. I love my iRiver. I keep it in my pocket or my bag and use the remote, so a colour screen does me no good. The only thing the new version has that I would like is FM recording.

The case that comes with it is a little bulky, and doesn't cover the whole player as much as I'd like it to. I suggest you get yourself an iskin. It offers far more protection and even comes with a screen protector. They also make covers for iPod's too.

I like the case, but it does seem a bit bulky for putting in my pocket. I might get an iSkin, but I'll wait a bit longer before investing any more money into this. Thanks a lot for the suggestion, though.

The remote was a major factor me in purchasing this, but now I realize how much cord-age it adds. I was once walking in a crowded subway station, and my earphone cord got tangled up with someone going in the opposite direction. My earphones got yanked off, and either fell on the ground somewhere around me, or got carried off by whoever yanked them off. Ever since then, I'm paranoid about having too much cord hanging out.

So, I'm worried the remote's cord may be too much to handle. I just don't want it flying around and getting in trouble. I'm a klutz sometimes.

Mine was $289. They can go for a bit less or considerably more, depending on the store. The price isn't fixed like the iPod.

The fact that every other Karma review mentioned hard drive failure scared me off. Have you had trouble with that?

bought mine in march of this year. i didn't read about this until a couple months ago. i've had 4 or 5 instances where i turn it off & it's stuck in "turn off" mode. i use a paper clip & reset it and things are ok again.

i might've chosen iriver otherwise knowing about the hd failures, but in buying mine from best buy with a 3 year fixit-or-replace it guarantee, i'm set. i'll want a 200 gig inch portable music player by then.
