Hootie and the Blowfish - Cracked Rear View

I hated this when it was big. And my college radio station made me play it. And I still, to this day, think it's one of the blandest CDs ever made. But when I hear it, it reminds me of some semi-cool times.

Let's Get Rocked - Def Leppard

Not their best song by a long shot, but it reminds me of a 1992 high school trip to Winnipeg on the bus. It took 6 hours and I was boozing it up the whole way to Manitoba where the age of majority was 18. The yokels controlling the music on the bus played that goddamn song about a 1000 times. It is irrecovably paired with chugging JD with coke chasers and is a very fond memory indeed. Portage and Main, fifty below.

Martika - Martika's Kitchen

I remember me and my friends made obscene lyrics to this tune which we proceeded to sing from the back of the Chemistry class. I can't remember what they were but we could barely contain ourselves and thinking back produces a warm smile at our idiotic, immature teenage behaviour.

For those who aren't old enough to remember or have simply forgotten, Martika was one of about three hundred girlfriends of Prince, who he wrote a hit for during the late 80's/early 90' and whom he then dumped, destroying their musical careers.

Funny... I hate Def Leppard but I remember being in my friend's car, singing "Pour Some Sugar on Me" at the top of our lungs, holding one hand behind our backs as we drummed out the beat with our one working arm. Alcohol must have been involved.

Too many songs to name here, but as far as shitty ones are concerned:

Everybody Walk the Dinosaur - Was (Not Was)
Boy - Book of Love
You Spin Me Round - Dead or Alive
Everybody Wants You - Billy Squier

Deep Blue Something - Breakfast at Tiffany's

first time a nailed a girl in the back of a car, Q101 (before they sucked) was playing a good mix of stuff I dug throughout my formative high school years, then this came on. She turned it up and proclaimed her love for this piece of tripe. She then proceeded to ride me as if i was a mechanical bull.

I feel so used.

I saw the most stunning karaoke version of this--or any other--song ever at Yogis in Chalmette, Louisiana. Yogis is probably ceiling deep in water now, but dammit I have The Professor's performance in my personal Hall of Fame.

Haha. We broke a Candlebox cd at Senior Week because one of the guys in our place found it to be the perfect disc suited for every situation.

Hate to admit it, but pretty much any cheesy country music from the 80s brings back fond memories of hanging out with a couple really fun redneck chicks at a tavern on my corner where you could get 50 cent ponies of Pabst Blue Ribbon. Those were some days when no job, no money, and living in a shithole meant that just sharing some cheap beer and getting out somewhere with some air conditioning in the summertime with a couple nice girls was about the greatest thing in the world.

I found myself downloading several tracks from a Shooting Star album a few weeks back, because I was reminiscing about my radio days in the mid-80's ( we played a bunch of tracks from this album + presented their concert ) .

About 5 songs in I said "what the hell am I doing with this crap"? lol

I have to say that without further explanation, I find this to be a little disturbing...

For me, I agree with the early 90s hip-hop. Also, Third Eye Blind's first album reminds me of my first year of college when those songs were played to death.

90s hip hop, sure

and the second 3rd Eye Blind album, and, sorry timmyjoe, but that Collective Soul "all your weight song" really remind me of my second senior year in college, working at a liquor store, drinking too much and staying up too late, and chasing (and getting) crazy pussy.
