Where do I go to buy CDs? Virgin is 'spensive. In Boston, I could just go to Newbury Comics, but I don't think there's anything like that here. What do I do?

Also, I apologize that I haven't called any of you who gave me phone numbers yet. I'm a loser. Well, and I went to China for a week. And then I've been going out with my future classmates nearly every night since I got back. Orientation starts Tuesday. Yippee!

Hi. Are you someone I know who has changed their username, or did some new Chicago poster somehow get 4000 posts without my noticing?

He answered the question. Honestly though...Tower on Clark and Belden is solid and at times has good deals.

Record Emporium on Paulina (close to the Paulina stop on the brown line) is good for the occasional gem, plus local musicians like Todd and Matt play there from time to time.

I thought you were asking me a question, and I didn't know how to answer, so I changed the subject.

Evil Clown is a short walk from Laurie's Planet of Sound, but it's one of the worst and most expensive stores in Chicago. There are a few other places within walking distance of the Reckless on Broadway, but the names escape me.

Rock Records down on Washington St.

I love that place. Tuesdays are $1 off sale disc, and $4 off other discs with their card. They only give out the cards on non-Tuesdays.

I walked there yesterday, and it was closed for Labot Day. Bastards.

I check out Reckless on Milwaukee and... well, I wasn't too impressed. Great used vinyl section, but not so good for CDs. Expensive and extremely difficult to find anything.

Reckless is pretty much useless for CDs.

I would gladly trade my Amoeba for a Dusty Groove. You Chicago folks don't know how lucky you are.

Dusty Groove is awesome.

Also, it's a hike, but totally worth it.

Dog Ear Records in Libertyville. Also has a recording studio in the basement where you can sometimes find Tom Morello who has great taste.

Nat, the owner is incredibly knowledgeable.

Yea, Amoeba in LA was mind blowing! I loved every second of being in that store. Just such a vast collection of everything...

I went there for the first time today. Despite the odor that hits you when you step inside, it's not a bad place. The selection of new CDs is pretty decent. Used CDs/vinyl? Not so much.
