I caught most of it (missed about the first 10-15 minutes, not sure who I missed; Dylan? They were using "Shelter From The Storm" in some of the promos but I dunno if he actually played)

Thought Neil Young, Paul Simon, and the Dixie Chicks were GOOD. Honorable mention to Mariah---she still got dem pipes.

Kanye was BAD. Like bad meaning bad not bad meaning good.

Everybody else was pretty ok.

Actually, Neil Young was REALLY FUCKING GOOD. got me a little misty.

Honestly, not sure of the tune. Despite owning a fair amount of Neil, I'm still pretty much a neophyte on a lot of his work. Oh-My-A-Dude-Who-Has-Like-127,000-Songs........

It was nice though---had a righteous choir of Sweet Black Angels to match his all black ensemple/fedora.

Plus he looked real strong/healthy which is Really good. Voice was nice.

Could've been something from the new album; I think it's out next month. He's got one of the richest back catalogues. I'll have to hook you up with some of his stuff, like Tonight's the Night.

It was a benefit on NBC last night---kinda like the (really incredible) one that was done on the Friday night after 911 with actors giving short speeches in between some musical acts playing on a soundstage.

Kinda the PBS telethon feel except Jack Nicholson is one of the people manning the phones.

i thought the BET one was better, though Neil definitely stole the NBC one last night. I didn't think he looked all that healthy, though.

Oh, I've got that----I've actually got a pretty good Neil stash (8 albums includong Decade), its just that he has So much stuff because he insists on constantly releasing that its easy to maybe lose some gem tracks through the cracks.

His most recent release that I own is Silver And Gold and it (strangely) is actually one of my favs......

I was more going relative terms since the last time I saw him he looked like real smelly death.

Missed the BET joint: who was there and hot?

I've hardly been home this week and been incredibly busy -- I hadn't heard anything about it. I wonder if they'll show excerpts later.

Thanks, guys.

I don't think I've actually seen neil in years, so it's all prerspective i suppose. David Banner was really good on the BET special, strangely enough. Eryka Badu was pretty on point too. I love that Chris Rock popped up at both of these saying "George Bush hates midgets" on NBC and "GB hates albinos" on the BET one.

I've heard that MTV is playing a disaster telethon (tomorrow?) that the Stones are gonna play at.

I also forgot to mention that I enjoyed the Foo Fighters doing "Born On The Bayou" well enough.

And strangely, a dude who I really dont like that much (outside of The Face's), Rod Stewart sounded pretty goddamned good.

Actually the MTV deal is on tonight (8pm EST)http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1509254/09092005/id_0.jhtml?headlines=true

Jesus, this bastard has got some fucking names.

I hope the format is that whole soundstage thing like the one last night. The sound is usually better that way then some buster-ass live audience shit.

Damn, I got a Dawgs game and then get to see Peral Jam and the Stones on TV. This day just took a good turn.

Yeah, it was on every single network on regular and cable television. We watched a bit of it at dinnertime but son's screams for Cartoon Network won eventually. Which was fine as I couldn't watch it after a while because the only thing I liked was Neil Young-the rest didn't thrill me at all. And for some reason the speeches by Cameron Diaz and Jennifer Aniston made me eyebrow raise(possibly cause they both bug me and neither of them played serious very well while talking).

Dang. It's too bad that I'll be watching my Tigers hopefully raise the spirits of my entire state instead. Don't screw this up JaMarcus.

Anyway, I'm sure MTV will re-air this several times since the network is pretty much null and void of other quality programming.

I only caught Bowie doing "Life On Mars". I thought he blew chunks (dainty, lo-fat chunks, but chunks all the same). I did, however, like his shiner make-up and the wrist bandage, which managed to butch him up a little.

That's the only chunk I saw. I was half asleep, then woke up to that. I didn't know what the hell was going on for a couple seconds.

"Foo Figh....C...C.R...geh...wha...hmmmmph....

Somethin' like that.

If by "pipes" you mean possessing a church organ-like construct of hollow circuitry running throughout the inside of her skull in place of a brain, I agree.
