Yeah, I was wondering if that happened everywhere or just around here. That was a nice lil' bonus.

Not much on the Starz/Encore freebie for me...I'm gonna watch "Hero", "Zaitochi" & "The Bourne Supremacy" but that's about it.

Encore is pretty garbage............Though Starz Always seems to have something on that I wanna see. But all things being equal, I gotta stay with HBO as my premium channel.

You guys that have DirectTV or some other satellite provider: Do you like it? Is it worth it? I'm pretty happy with Comcast for the past year so I'm not thinking about switching----I just want an HONEST opinion from sat. folks.

We've got DirecTV because it's the only option in the building we moved into this time last year. The management has a contract with 'em - we couldn't get Time Warner Cable if we wanted to.

In our old place we HAD Time Warner Digital Cable. The DTV package we have is comparable...about the only things different are the lack of the Style Channel & the Encore movie channels. But with DTV ALL the channels are digital quality, as opposed to 1 tier like TW Cable.

And DTV is costing us $25 less a month.

The only real compaint I have with the DirecTV is that it does go out a lot when the weather's stormy.

DirecTV rocks. Never have a problem with it goin' out [even during Katrina], and Tivo is the best friggin' thing ever.

I'm really happy, Chris. Don't know what Comcast charges down in Ga for the basic digital cable package, but for us, with a DVR rental, it was going to cost us $75 per month. So we switched to DirecTV. We also got a TiVo with it for 4.99 a month (like Death mentioned). I think we paid *maybe* $50 for the whole set up-- we got the dish, the tuner with the TiVo and free installation in our den (we only have one tv in the house). We're paying around $46 per month and that's LESS than what we paid for basic standard cable.

edit: my bad... I didn't see that this was another thread already... I'll delete mine!

We love ours. I agree with all of the above mentioned.

But we do get the problems when it's stormy. That and every so often we lose signal altogether and we have to unplug everything and reconnect. But we live in a high rise and we've been told it's the connection bs in here.

So far tonight with the freeview channels we've watched Hellboy(good) and now Josh has tried to subject me to Dawn of the Dead(not good, not a zombie movie fan at all-I'm out of that room now).

Basic 39.99
+15 channels 3.00
Premium (HBO, Showtime, Starz, sports) 12.00 (11,10…)
Extra room(s) 4.99
Tivo(s) 4.99

Compared to the cable I use to have (At&t, now Comcast), it’s a steal.

not true here, where we got record rainfalls, but in Los Angeles you have very little to complain about.

np: Okkervil River - Black Sheep Boy

A few guys I work with have it and one of them bought some card reader or something that he hooks up to his computer to download codes so he can get free channels. I'm not exactly sure how it works though.

Yeah, I'm aware of that shit.....

Comcast is pretty good....I gotta say that it has maybe only gone out twice in the past 18 months.

I pay in the neighborhood of $100.00 a month for digital cable,HBO,an HDTV box, plus my Hi-Speed Ingernet....

I need to get a DVR and another box for the bedroom though....Cant even watch Imus in the morning b/c MSNBC is channel 120 and that TV only goes to 99......and sometimes I'd rather just lay in bed than take my ass to the livingroom.

So here's what I saw over the weekend....

Friday Night Lights- eh, okay. But I agree with paladisiac's description... it felt like an expensive video highlight reel. I was shocked to hear "I Wanna Be Your Dog" in it though. Many Explosions in the Sky songs on the soundtrack.

Wimbledon - cute for a romantic comedy, but I think Paul Bettany's kinda cute, so there ya go. Formulaic for the most part.

Laws of Attraction - gag... and often I like Julianne Moore and Pierce Brosnan. I didn't feel any chemistry between them. The bits with Parker Posey and her rock star husband were funny though.

Mona Lisa Smile - never saw this in the theater but thought it was quite good. I'm not a Julia Roberts fan, but the rest of the cast was great. A female Dead Poets Society, if you will.

Ladder 49 - Jesus, am I the only person who finds Joaquin Phoenix physically repulsive AND untalented? Interesting movie as long as I'm watching for free, but not all that much of a stretch from "Backdraft."

Still left to watch:
Hero, which I noticed is dubbed from the small bit I saw. That sucks.

Man with the Screaming Brain - ok, this was on Sci-Fi, not Starz/Encore, but it's Bruce Campbell. I might wait for the hubby to get home to watch this one. I'm sure it will be cheesy as hell with stiff acting and a lot of physical humor.

for fri nite lites, i thought that was BSS. still, a very nice choice to fit the whole highlight reel affect.

i watched parts of ladder 49 between football games. didn't seem that great. i'm pretty sure i would've been annoyed with this movie mostly being told as flashbacks.

i liked phoenix in gladiator. i find him highly passable but not one of my fav actors. didn't seem like much of a role to work with in L49 as it was.
