Do you think it will happen? Iran always was more dangerous then Iraq. It also happens to share borders with Afghanistan on one side and Iraq on the other. Im against war, but that doesn't mean im naive enough to think it isn't on the cards.

The Israelis have already said publicly that they will destroy Iran's attempt to build an nuclear reactor in order to stop them from creating an atomic bomb. If that happens and Iran retaliates I'd say there would a good chance that U.S. invades Iran.

I don't think the US will invade Iran at least in the short term.

The US military is stretched at the moment without needing an other couple of hundred thousand troops to occupy a hostile country with no exit plan, they also have the Katrina bill to pick up and an invasion of Shia Iran would piss off the majority in Iraq who are, at the moment are co-operating with the US. Then of course there is the possibility that Iran may already have nuclear weapons of some kind.

I don't think it would be a very good idea but then maybe I'm crediting the decision makers with more brains than they have shown up to now.

I wouldn't be surprised if there was an airstrike on their nuclear facilities at some point though.

Unlike Iraq, Iran can actually defend itself, so I don't think they're going to war with them, especially in the short term. The casualties would be so enormous on all sides that it would really fuck up the stability of world order, and that's not something the neocons would be willing to risk.

With all the direct and indirect effects of having most of our hard/soft power aimed at Iraq, I don't really see it happening. Also, China and Russia are not exactly happy with us being in their back yard. I don't see them letting us have an even bigger presence.
