Course Billboard has about 743 charts, so that says more about compartmentalization than about the state of music.

MARILYN MANSON LYRICS

"Rock Is Dead"

All simple monkeys with alien babies
Amphetamines for boys
Crucifixes for ladies
Sampled and soulless
Worldwide and real webbed
You sell all the living
For more safer dead

Anything to belong

[Chorus:]
Rock is deader than dead
Shock is all in your head
Your sex and your dope is all that were fed
So fuck all your protests and put them to bed

God is in the T.V.

1,000 mothers are praying for it
We're so full of hope
And so full of shit
Build a new god to medicate and to ape
Sell us ersatz dressed up and real fake

Anything to belong

Rock is deader than dead

[Chorus repeat]

God is in the T.V.

This reminds me, I still havn't seen the video for "Wake Me When September Ends"... Which features the way-cute, but not yet legal (?), Evan Rachel Wood.

fake edit (01): Correction - born 7 Sept 1987, so I don't have to feel creepy, anymore.

fake edit (02): When does Pretty Persuasion finally open in MKE? Come on, Landmark Theatres, hop to it... And why are you also only getting Thumbsucker in mid-October? I could swear the rest of America already has it....

I would rather the video treatment have dealt with Billy Joe's dad's death, not with Iraq. But it'll be a bigger hit this way, which is the label's goal.

Here is a more important issue: Romance is dead.

I read that Billie Joe was okay to the treatment by the director. He noted that the song is actually about events twenty-some-odd years ago, but also recognized that just as much as the song itself demonstrates his artistic vision, the video can (and should) be the director's baby.

Rock's been dead forever.

Now rock 'n' roll is alive & well...always has been, always will be - as long as people want to celebrate, get angry, or fuck.

No, pop is dead. It has lost its meaning. There is no longer any one type of music that universally appeals.

Every few years someone loudly proclaims the trendy, "Rock is dead!" slogan...

What Yail and frosted said + modern rock chart has the Killers, White Stripes, and Franz Ferdinand. ...and I'm still rooting for Taproot five years later.

And Prodigy/other electronic acts killed it, finally, in '96.

Is the rock about to sit on a woman's head in that picture?

I did a little research of the "Golden Years" (1965-1978) with the presumption I would find Top Forty lists that were full of killer classics. Nope, you are absolutely right, it has always been total shit that sold and made these lists. A little encouraging, actually... these could just as well be the Golden Years to anyone who needed it.

I thought Rock is Dead is a Doors bootleg.

She looks unconscious, which is probably a good thing.
