All I know is you can get extremely wasted at the Purple Porpoise and walk to the Swamp at 10:00 AM which is pretty damn cool.

Been twice for LSU road games and was not really sober enough to really notice my surrondings. Seemed nice enough. Maybe a little cheesy ?
So basically I'm no help to you.

very cool, laid back town. lot's of good places to eat. mellow people, and a good variety of lifestyles. not the typical hicksville like many Central Florida cities, and not as absurdly commercial like Orlando.

a few hours from Georgia, and 5 hours or so from South Florida.

It's also a very Green place. Environmentally conscious. Lots of parks, lakes. It's a big town with all the positive accoutrements a large University can add. I was really quite pleasantly surprised when I visited. Now that my in-laws have moved there I sense I'll be up there quite a bit.

[typical.ATL.monger]Maybe, but it's still UF. Come up to Jax for the FLA-GA game, and we'll show you positive accoutrements.[/typical.ATL.monger]

Never been there but I've been to the UGA/FL game in Jacksonville enough to know that it's The Jean Short Capitol of the World.

Also has some pretty hot women who can get "red" with the best of them. Ask Busty about this.

I"m sure it's a cultural oasis compared to the wasteland that surrounds it in North FL.

I think WhineyCMJ is from there. He might have some insight.
