Oh My God - You're Too Straight To Love Me

I think it's available nationally since their last one was.
In-FREAKING-credible band from Chicago.

This is hard.
They're a three-piece w/ drums, organ and bass - but it's not at all noise or garage rock derived. It's more like art punk, only with this great craft to the songwriting that reminds me of late 80s REM in some spots. Their singer is one of the best stage characters I've seen in my time, too.

Hop on www.ohmygodmusic.com and you can check out some clips. "Pearls of Wisdom" is one of the more rockin'/punkier tracks, but also try "Feb. 14" (I think that's the name) to hear how nuanced the writing can be.

I simply can't think of an RIYL. I wrote for CMJ for 2 years and never had a problem w/ that, but they have such a distinct and original sound that I'm stumped. With all the Chicagoans running rampant @ obner/CMJ, I never understood why they don't get more love 'round these parts.

Enjoy!

Hate to disagree, but these guys blow ass and have for years. The lead singer thinks he's a David Yow/Freddie Mercury hybrid and is usually too drunk to perform.

The organist is the only one with musical talent... supposedly, he's played with the likes of Otis Rush and Junior Wells and that's usually good enough for me... but I just don't like these guys at all.

Thanks to Mod Lang in Berkeley I just found out that this was put out this week in the UK. I’m very anxious to hear it because it’s like getting a Shoegaze CD from about ten years ago, today. I posted about this about a month ago on my Creation Records post. It’s cheap also for a import.

* THE TELESCOPES- #untitled second album- reissue of 11-track Creation label album with two bonus track plus new liner notes and artwork on Rev-Ola cd $14.98

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
edit: I’m all messed up, I thought this was a lost album that was made but never released. Turns out that it’s the self-titled album I had since it came out. Yeah a classic and the best one they did or am I really just inflating my post count?

I happen to also post about the Telescopes on I Love Music and a guy from Poptones responded and gave me this link: http://www.poptones.co.uk/interviews/qo ... lawrie.htm
I think Stephen Lawrie has lost it…Now to think of a question to ask Neil Halstead.
