What's with all these overstated band names?:

Go! Team
Clap Your Hands Say Yeah
Shout Out Louds
Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Blah Blah Blahs, and now
You Say Party! We Say Die!

I'm sure there are others. Their hyperbole makes me want to listen to them even less.

Wow, if a band name is enough to turn you off of what could be some great music then I feel really sorry for you.

A band's name is an identity mark that reflects at least some of the band's creativity and ideas about making music.

I have no problem judging an unheard band based on the impression their name leaves on me. If that means I miss something, fuck it--ain't the end of the world.

All of the above are shitty names for bands, and despite their indie desires, there is an obvious trendiness apparent.

I think it's amusing that it is acceptable to judge Regurgitate or Napalm Death based on their names, yet Clap Your Hands Say Yeah or !!! or +/- is off-limits. At least Clap Your Hands Say Yeah is easy to find the record store.

I agree with Elvis Fu to an extent. If something's good and I like it when I hear it, I don't care if the name is repulsive. But if a band's name is the first thing that I encounter, rather than their sound, I'm less than likely to seek them out if their name strikes me in a bad way.

My favourite Wolf Eyes song is "Urine Burn".

I felt this way about Saturday Looks Good To me. I always hated that name and I thought they were some band that would mainly play frat parties and what not but then I heard All Our Summer Songs and was blown away. So ever since then I try not to judge any band till I actually have heard them.

Don't forget Say Hi to Your Mom. I think it's my least favorite. Or was, until you mentioned Bling Kong. Now that I've heard of them, I think that's my least favorite band name.

Yeah yeah yeahs doesn't seem to fit here. While this could be an exclamation like, "YEAH YEAH YEAH!!!"l it could be seen as "Yeah, yeah, yeah" as in "I've heard it all before," which in turn is pretty ironic in the sense that rock women weren't on the radio at all when the Yeah yeah yeahs came out. (Unless you count Pink.)

Blah blah blah doesn't strike me so much as overstated either. Unless there name was originally blah.

That said, I think this is a great topic. What about Between the Buried and Me. A friend of mine queried, "Isn't that the dirt?"
