It is used for playing an Ipod through your car stereo.

Is it worth a damn?

Are any of the FM transmitters worth a damn?

I have heard that in metropolitan areas it is hard to find a frequency.

Loogs is correct.
Otherwise, it's decent but if you can get a cassette adapter, you'd be better off.

I've been in a car in which an FM transmitter was being used with little luck.

Do any car stereos come with line-in plugs or something? That would be useful.

For some reason, you can't use a cassette in Ben's ride...nore in Yail's. I think its a newer model Ford thing, cuz my mid 90s Maxima stereo works juuust fine with a cassette adapter.

my Griffin iTrip has worked great for me everywhere except for the Texas Metroplex, where there's such saturation around the dial that it is impossible to find an open frequency on which to broadcast - Austin is no problem, though, so I am a fan.
