As much as I've liked Mike Timlin over the years, he's been Score King Of Inherited Runs this year.

Don't bring Timlin in with runners on.

Somehow though, I just can't muster the negativity to really be bummed out about this. The team has been shoestringing along for weeks now and have only looked infrequently dominant - aside from Papi and some of the rookie pitching - it's just been difficult to really get your hopes up, ya know? I'm still with them all the way and expect that they'll pull it out, but they've got a goodly sized challenge ahead...

Hansen, Papelbon & Delcarmen didn't get in the game tonight.

Nice going, Francona.

All you had to do was win the division, and Cleveland had a chance to take the wild card. We could have worked together to shut the Yankees out, but NNNOOOOO!!!! ;)

I actually think this is hillarious and I actually liked the Red Sox when I was younger. Every sports reporter thought they would repeat or have a great chance at making the series again, and have been dogging the mediocre Yankees all year. St. Louis and the White Sox have been dominating all year, and Cleveland is doing fantastic to challenge the White Sox, yet most of the ESPN staff think they don't stand a chance against Boston.

That's because they know that Boston is the only team non-fans are remotely interested in. Go Memphis Redbirds! Oh wait...

They are now the Jackson Jaxx, I do believe. Jackson is a nothing town about an hour east.

Nothing town, my ass. They got that whole Casey Jones Museum and Old Country Store tourist trap. I've traveled I-40 from Bristol to Memphis quite a few times.

I had a friend who was working in the Marketing Dept. for the Jackson club (though not the Jaxx, that I remember), but that was around 1998 or so.

So did Memphis get Louisville's AAA Redbirds, and if so, are they now affiliated with the Cardinals, not the Royals?

Yes and yes. The Redbirds stadium is one of the best (The best?) AAA fields I've seen, and amazingly continues to draw a fairly large crowd (a complete polar opposite to most Memphis sports franchises, i.e.- Memphis Maniax XFL team).

And Red Sox fans were talking about the White Sox collapsing?

I think a 15 game lead down to 1.5 is worse than giving up a 6 game lead.

I mean, we had a chance to put away the MFYs for sure, but failed to do it. However, we maintained our pace without 2 potential cy young candidates, a dependable bullpen, and with a number of injuries to key personnel, etc. The collapse comparison really doesn't hold much water. That doesn't make me any happier to still be 1 game back, despite winning and all tonight.

The Yankees are back where they belong. barring injury to key pitchers(Chacon, johnson, riviera), they have a good chance of going all the way to the world series. they are treading on thin ice, but i got faith.

You're still a half game back, but you can make that up easily since you have the O's on Sunday.

But then the Yankees come to town for four, so that's not going to help your cause.
