...then I picked up my guitar and it came right out.

I love it when that happens.

(This is the first complete song I've written - lyrics and music - since the surgery. It's a relief.)

Thanx.
I gotta lot of half-songs floating around right now.
Hopefully I'll finish those soon, too.

This will probably sounds stupid...but was it in line with your other stuff, or a departure?

This one was more in-line with the whole Hop On Pop sound, but those half-finished songs I have are pretty much a departure - one is a minor key/modal-type thing and another is this sort of linear thing that zags when you expect it to zig. Then I have a song that Johnny Cash would have done well with, if he were still alive. And also a waltz that is really the only political-type thing I've ever written.

So, I guess, every song I ever write is really a departure in some way or other.

Before I wrote "Mile From Monday", I had never written anything like that before; ditto for "Bound To Fail", "Hey" (which is on Lo-Fi..., but will be re-recorded for the next HoP record in a very COOL way), etc., etc., etc....

If you listen to the songs, I don't think that I really do have a defined sound, per se. Although Matt's piano certainly colored a lot of the last record.
