I liked it mostly because no one's doing these kind of movies anymore. And by that I mean its got these really beautiful and creative claymation scenes that look different from all of the other computer generated pap that's being pushed out these days.

The other thing that I liked is that this is a movie that takes risks: a man inadvertently marries a corpse while on the eve of his arranged marriage to someone else. Obviously this is not your usual Disney fare and what a relief that is. As a kid I was always drawn to the plentifully available movies, books, and art that were dark, eccentric, supernatural, and a bit freakish. In these conservative times films like these are a rarity (The Harry Potter series and A Series Of Unforunate Events movies are exceptions). Nowadays, I find that there is so much bland stuff out there I wonder if kids go to animated movies because they want to see something or if its really because there's no better alternative.

Anyways, if you liked A Nightmare Before Christmas you'll probably enjoy this as well. It's a little on the short side but I found that to be just right. It's very Halloween-y but not spooky at all. I expect that more than a few Christian groups will be trying their best to get their flock not to go and see this.

Erm, no because I thought it was good.

I don't want to give away the entire thing and spoil it for others that haven't seen it yet.

Not to mention the brilliant score and songs done by Danny Elfman. Not nearly as good as Nightmare but still a pretty decent film. The visuals were just jaw-dropping in some scenes. Did you notice that the land of the living was a bleak looking place while the land of the dead was more colorful and vibrant ? Pretty morbid looking film that was rated PG is kinda rare. I think adults would appreciate this one more so than the kids.

Josh is taking me to see this today. It's the only thing I asked to do on my birthday.

I can't wait.

And I'm actually a big Burton fan and especially a fan of Nightmare, so this was something I've eagerly been awaiting to release.

I'm glad to hear it's everything it should be. Awesome.

I thought there was too much song and dance, as well as too many "we're dead!" jokes. It could have used a lot more story.

I went to see this Fraday night at the drive-in. That was a bad idea.

[Shit no one will probably care about, but it provides some context]

First my girlfriend's car got a flat tire as soon as we got into the theater lot. Then when I got out to change it, I couldn't find a jack or a tire iron in her car, just the spare. Luckily the people next to us were nice enough to loan us theirs, but the iron was a little bit too big and kept slipping off of the bolts (hopefully we didn't ruin the heads). Anyway, once we got the bolts off and the wheel off the gound, it wouldn't come off (never had this happen out of God-knows-how-many times of changing flats). We couldn't figure out what was holding it on, so my gf's friend called her dad. He suggested kicking the top of the wheel (sounded kinda familiar) which worked. So by the time we had finally gotten the spare on, we'd missed the first 15-20 mins of the movie.

There were four of in the car so we had brought folding chairs so two of us could sit outside. You can generally hear the movie outside of your car due to the combined volume of all of the other car stereos, but a lot of the dialogue was a little hard to make out, especially in the songs. I'd brought my new mp3 player which has an FM tuner, thinking I could use it to hear the movie (the audio is broadcast short-rangeover an FM station). I tuned it to the right station, but I wasn't picking up the movie so I fumbled through its clumsy interface for probably the next 20 mins trying to get it to work. Once I finally gave up and tried to just focus on the movie, there was probably only about 30-40 mins left. During that time at least two trains came through and were really fucking loud (can't remember that happening before at the drive-in).

[/cotext shit]

I couldn't get into the movie at all at first, and I thought it was incredibly uninteresting and predictable. However, I was aware that my mood was seriously affecting my enjoyment so I tried to just relax and enjoy it. Eventually I did. I thought the last 20 minutes or so were great. I didn't like the animation style as much as Nightmare, but it was incredibly fluid and technically very impressive. A lot of the jokes fell flat, but it was still fun to watch. I'd recommend going to see it especially considering what else is out in the mainstream theaters right now.

Heh- that's funny, sadly.

There's a Sacramento rag called Alive & Kicking, and when they can, they take a band to the only local drive-in and interview them while the movie plays. Hilarity ensues, as you can guess.

Saw the movie, agree that the beginning was a little slow but when it picked up it really picked up.

I thought it was absolutely wonderful then, I loved the gothic victorian feel to the storyline. I felt like I was watching an Edward Gorey story come alive. That's what I think made it divine.

Plus of course the acting(do we refer to animated characters as acting? why sure) was great, Depp is always wonderful and Bonham-Carter was charming in her quirky way.

I had absolutely no problem with the song and dance numbers, there were only a scant few and they were done well.

I DID however have the joyful pleasure of sitting next to a three-4 yr old little girl whose mother was the most clueless person on the planet and needs to be slapped for taking the child to the film and then letting her TALK the whole way through it. In a very crowded theater no less. She didn't even tell the girl to be quiet she just chatted along with her. This wasn't a movie for small kids, it was very macabre and the girl was a bit freaked out. arrrgghh. Almost ruined the film for me. I kept telling myself to tune the kid out.

ANyways, loved loved loved it and totally recommend it.

Monkeybone: not a Tim Burton movie.

It was directed by Henry Selick, the animation director for Nightmare Before Christmas and James and the Giant Peach. Burton used a different animation director for Corpse Bride.

Well my opinion is that no one was doing those type of movies anymore, it has claymation and takes risks?
