Steve has an argument going at CMJ already -- though, not many have argued.

Phallocentric -- great word. Describes the rock world, too.

Most notable non-arguer: Steve himself

You know what makes less sense?

Black Flag --- Fugazi...

Or putting Fugazi all the way down at #18 themselves...

As well as giving Black Flag credit for SST (thru Ginn), yet showing little love for Superchunk for Merge (thru mac and laura)...

Eh...no "non-personal" list is infallable - even in the eyes of the contributors that make it. Remember Pitchfork's "1-10 scale" creating an Arcade Fire #1 (over Animal Collective)?

I don't think the "thank you / your welcome" selections are solely based on how the bands sound. Both Flag and Fugazi reflect a strong DIY aesthetic that was a benchmark for punk during their respective times. That also might be a shout-out to the friendship between Rollins and MacKaye.

Another point: If it's not for Sonic Youth, Sigur Ros has little/no indie-rock fanbase.

How is Merge getting little love in that article? It's half of the Superchunk piece. Although time may even the influence of the two labels, SST is miles ahead of Merge right now.

They pretty much had their teeth knocked in on ILM. CMJ couldn't post a list like this and expect not to get hammered. Sure I'm the one who brought up the subject but it's mainly because they didn't mention The Cure. Robert Smith's group is definitively the biggest omission on this list, IMO.

The best band besides the Cure not mentioned that they brought up has to be Dinosaur Jr. but also why not DJ Shadow or as quite a few brought up Guided By Voices?

Now I'm going the Beck route…

edit: Radiohead at 24 is a fucking joke, it a anti Pitchfork thing or something.

Umm, every Indie board on the net talks about ILM as it’s no secret. Only Obner acts like it a bad word and yes I have been way, way overboard about them but that is mainly because I discovered them within the last 9 months or so. I will and think have gotten over my fascination about that board, and I’m sorry about my fanboy rants, but that won’t stop me from bringing them up every now and again when I feel it’s appropriate.

No one acts like its a bad word - half the people here post there or at least read it. It's a different board - people can read it if they want. We don't need ILM posts relayed to here via you every two minutes. Not trying to be an arsehole towards you or anything, you've helped me out before and all.
