Bush needs to one day be held accountable for our being in Iraq and it's people like Cindy Sheehan who will continue to keep the pressure on him and keep reminding him of what he's done.

just for the record, i was being facetious. i think what she's going is great, and i think all the right wing hacks that are trying to tear her down are despicable. its classic ad hominem--attack the person instead of the argument she's making.
at this point its not a question of if we cut and run out of iraq, but when (i.e. before or after the republicans get their asses handed to them in the midterm elections). its getting harder and harder to portray her as an extremist when poll after poll shows the majority of americans are on her side on the war. her story is compelling, which makes her a threat, which means bill o'reilly and the increasingly shrill conservative defenders of this war of choice have to tear her down by any means necessary...

Think I might have mentioned having a buddy who joined the army (special forces) 3-odd years ago... anywho, just this morning I get an email from him from "overseas," but he can't say exactly where. Morale isn't good. *Speaking only for him and his immediate peers,* they have a lot more in common, wishlist-wise, with those who think we ought not be there, than with those who can't wait to die for their country. WWII this ain't.

You have to admit that in being a dedicated member of the armed services during at time of war you run quite a risk of being wounded or killed. Casey Sheehan by all accounts I've seen was a dedicated soldier who had returned for another tour in the shit. To say that he did not fully realize the possibility of mortal danger is ludicrous. To go and fight on foreign soil is exactly what he wanted to do, and he realized that there was a chance he might die.

is it just me, or does the anti-war movement seem kind of pathetic? i suppose it could just be the way it's being portrayed by the media, or the fact that it's only now gaining moment, but considering the number of people against the war, i'm just not sensing any tangible urgency.

for the record, O'reilly is not a defender of this war, and has actually spoken out against Bush quite a few times regarding it.

I think it has more to do with why the soldiers are there in the first place. It's not about dying to protect your country. I think they're fine with dying for the right cause but I suspect that most of the soldiers currently in Iraq aren't very happy with the whole situation.

As to Sheehan, I certainly respect her right to protest the war,(antiwar protests are a part of every war--even the popular ones like WWII) but I think that she suffers from John Walsh Syndrome----She has made this all about her and Bush instead of the cause.

Her son, by the way, volunteered for service knowing full well that he might be called to fight and that death was a possibility.

If there is an actual anti-war (as opposed to anti-Bush) movement I would advise them to put Cindy away; A dead soldiers' mother is a compelling tool but only to a point----the most effective anti-war arguments come from veterans (see Ron Kovic); Read: Get some dudes in wheelchairs.

Also, for all of you Obner-hippies: Did you guys oppose US troops in Bosnia, Kosovo or Somalia?

my friend who works in intelligence, has been in Fallujah but is now in Baghdad, says that its pretty much a cluster fuck over there and thinks the war is a huge mistake. he is just doing his best to do his job and get the fuck out.

Sure, I'm not for this mess in Iraq, I'm just anti-Cindy Sheehan. I think she is a poor leader for this crusade.
