Anybody know anything about the town?

Good place to drink?

Good place to eat?

Places close to here to visit?

Anything interesting?

How do these people not burn alive everyday?

driving around and whipping eggs at old people would probably kill a few hours.

You should look up Mike (afreshstart4me) or Tom (Mot the hoople). They live not far from there.

Just saw that Martin Sexton is playing on Thursday night in Tuscon. That's a good possibility.

I live here or there rather.

Good place to drink?
the Rouge is a pretty cool punk dive bar.

Casey Moore's is my favorite bar. But it's in Tempe, shouldn't be more then 15 minutes from where you're staying though. I highly recommend checking out this place Friday or Saturday.

On Friday there's something called First Friday Art Walk. It's in Phoenix...but it's once a month, and there's a bunch of stuff to see and do down there. Basically a lot of artists display their shit. Sometimes theres a band playing, and other stuff going on too.

oh, and there's a pretty decent noise rock/experimental band playing tomorrow night (wed). It's in phoenix at an art gallery. It's their cd release so there should be a decent turn out. I guess that's if you want to do something "sceney."

oh, here's there myspace

I think Mike is either training to go or already in Iraq.

Tuscon is a pretty good haul (about a 100 miles I think) from Scottsdale.

I enjoyed the scenery in Tempe when we were stranded there.

When I went I didn't have the chance to meet up with Mike because I was with my boss at a conference.

I did like the Old Tortilla Factory which is in Scottsdale.

Mike is still at home in Phoenix (spoke to him a few days ago), waiting to be sent to Fort Bliss. He doesn't go to Iraq until the end of the year after going through a couple of months of training. Still time to party it up with one of the board's veterans. :)

Hey, it's "Mot, NO hoople." I said I don't have a hoople and I mean it!

But yeah, I sort of live "not far" from Scottsdale. The Phoenix-area is THE definition of sprawl - Scottsdale's a good 30 miles from me, at least. And I'm not even at the outer edge of houses anymore.

i loathe scottsdale. been there a few times and it is a bunch of gated communities with look-a-like houses, women with really big hair, gaudy restaurants in strip malls, etc, etc.

I do! I do!

Oh, you mean "know Scottsdale" like that. There are tons of Circle Ks. If you're thirsty, just turn a corner and you'll find one. OH, you mean drink alcoholic beverages. No idea. I'm pretty sure there are tons of bars. I'm not a drinker, so I couldn't tell you. Well, I drink Coke and water, but I pointed out the places that specialize in those.

It would probably be prudent to know that I'm like totally antisocial and so don't really explore these "going out" type places that people go to on weekends.

I prefer Wendy's if I'm eating out. They've got 10-piece nugget meals now, it's a pretty good deal.

Well, how far are you willing to drive? If you have a day to kill, go see Sedona and then go up to Flagstaff and see the meteor crater. Just outside of Flagstaff there's some amazing Indian ruins. In town . . . I'll have to think about that. Well, there's Arcosanti, which is just north of Phoenix (on the way to Flagstaff) if you want to go point at hippies in their funny village. I've never actually been there, but I saw a show on it, pretty interesting.

This isn't even remotely hot! This is actually pretty nice weather we're having - 100 degrees is warm, but when you've spent many days at 115, it's nothin'.

Yeah, that's a pretty good description, actually. Scottsdale's all the "upscale lifestyle" crap - snooty, cheesy "Sonoran" art, crap like that. Head west and it changes considerably. Sometimes for the worse.

Hey Mot, have you ever been to that place where you basically park at this apartment complex, hike up a hill and you get this amazing view of the entire Pheonix valley. We went up there at night and it was really amazing. No idea where it is though; we were staying in Tempe but I honestly dont remember howfar we drove.

We also went for a drive and a swim at some place that I think was called the Apache Trail.....

I think you're talking about Camelback Mountain. I've done that, long ago, and it is a great view of the city. It's also a great place to get picked up by a helicopter, as it's a frequent news item that someone ultimately winds up stuck somewhere on that mountain, seems like once every couple weeks. Bonus points to the morons who come here from like Pennsylvania and hike that thing in the middle of a summer day with no water. What are you thinking, man?!

we get a lot of those yahoos here too - except normally they stuck on some rock outcroppings at the beach when the tide comes in or on some thousand foot cliff that they tried to climb up in flip flops

Frank Lloyd Wright's house Taliesin West is in Scottsdale if you've got any interest in this sort of thing.
