i am glad the Giants didn't make it this year - did not deserve the playoffs. too many old guys with too many injuries. not sure that Padres have much to celebrate, though. they may not have been as much of a turd as the rest of the NL West but they are still are pretty crappy.

Mets had 83 wins that year.

And, yes, Twins also won a WS with 85 regular wins to their name, in '87.

Yes, I know the Padres suck because I've watched them all season. But whatever, first place is first place. The way I see it though, the worst team in the NL West is actually Arizona (Colorado excluded for sake of argument). Padres, Dodgers, Giants all had signifcant and lengthy injuries to key players. Not so much the case with AZ.

Anyway, Padres have a winning record against St. Louis and Atlanta (5-1), so anything could happen here.
