Well i have to make a decision for my application to university before long (i think you guys call this 'college'...or is college something separate entirely?). I'm probably interested in the following courses, but i still don't have my heart completely set on anything:

->Bachelor of Creative Industries (Creative Writing)/Law
->Bachelor of Creative Industries (Mass Communication)/Law
->Bachelor of Law/Psychology
->Economics/Law

at either University of Queensland, or Queensland University of Technology (they're two of the top ones in Australia i guess...but then again we don't have a whole lot of tertiary institutions).

I also have my long term goal set on possibly doing post-grad. medicine, and then maaaaybe post-post-grad. psychiatry (maybe getting ahead of myself for now), but then again i very well could have said pipe-dream crushed by some intervening factor such as 'failure'.

I've been called lazy through high school for always 'coasting' through school, because basically i've been nothing but disinterested and bored with all my classes and school life in general. Still, i've got the highest English mark in my school and my region, well, because i can write better than everyone else i guess (still, it is only high school English). Though, when i put my mind to something i am normally devoted to it, but i lose motivation immensely when i get bored with something (i guess everyone does).

This in mind, has anyone here studied any of the above fields, and thus posesses the experience to either dissuade or encourage a young fellow like me to pursue them, or maybe even suggest something similar?

Any advice is much appreesh'd.

Man o man, I don't think we call them the same thing here. Creative Industries?? Que? So these are law-oriented undergrad courses, but you see medicine down the road?

I wish I could help. German language undergrad, Business grad school.

coasting through school? are you me?

Im doing a BSc right now , second year. Im thinking about going into med after next year too. First year I coasted by too, doing assignments/studying on the night before and I was pretty much doing a pre med degree, and still managed a GPa higher then 7 for first year. This year is different though, it's the first time in my life i actually have to do work and cant cruise by on natural ability - I've been getting about 3 hours of sleep a night the past week finishing my drug review assignment

Can you tell me what the /Law part is? Does that mean you're set on concentrating in law whatever you do, or is that just kiwi funny talk?

Australian, funny talk. It's a combined degree, being that in the end i will have done a law degree, in addition to a creative writing degree. It is mostly law though.

Combined degrees are the big thing over here, because that way you open more doors in terms of employment opportunites and workplace flexibility when you graduate.

Don't you have to be accepted to the school before selecting courses? Or are you automatically admitted (as an in-state/territory applicant)?

If you meet the academic requirement easily, you get in. We get what's called an OP score when we graduate high school, where each student is allocated a score from 1 through 25, 1 being the highest. Medicine normally requires a 1, while something like business would require about a 12. My school gives us accurate predictions of what our scores will be, so i am only applying for courses i know i will be accepted into.

you have to select courses before being accepted into the school. It's not only the flushed toilet water that goes the other way down here... :lol:

Well, the Economics degree will accompany the law degree best and be useful if you actually want to be a lawyer, but that's not to say I actually recommend it.

Take that class where the Germans bomb Pearl Harbor. You won't have to ask any more questions after that. Your motivations will be fully recognized.
