I had some birthday money to spend at Best Buy and this was the most intriguing thing I found.

I picked up Un Viaje, because I found a version - for only $2 more that came with a bonus 3rd CD AND a DVD!!!

Did I start with a good pick or should I have held out until I found one of their other releases to dive in? I also figured that, since it was a live album, that it would give me a pretty good overview of their catalog. And I've heard that they're pretty amazing live.

I'll post impressions as they are made.
And feel free to let me know what you think of these guys and this record. I wanna know.

Yes, they are AMAZING live. I was impressed when I saw them at Coachella.

I like Cuatro Caminos (Eres is my favorite)... but the live album is a good start.

Okay: 4 songs into my forst listen and I think I'm gonna like this. "Noche Oscura" is so fucking cool and they have a TON of energy. I think they are going on my "must see" list of bands to catch live.

And... Cuatro Caminos sounds like it would be the next one to get.

I thought Cuatro Caminos was pretty bad. I didn't like too much.

I wouldn't say bad, but I would agree with not noteworthy at all or borderline trade in material.

I don't have the live album, but am guessing that its a good introduction. I have also have a best of compilation, Tiempo Transcurrido, which is much much better than Cuatro Caminos. Personally, though, I don't know why you'd want another Cafe Tacuba if you consider yourself happy with just one Cesaria Evora.

I still don't really understand why Cafe Tacuba broke through in the US. There's a lot better latin rock out there that hasn't. Maybe it has something to do with touring.

Mexico - so far from Go[t], so close to the United States.

It's not that I don't want more Caesaria Evora, I just wanted to pick up something today from a band that I didn't really know. Also, the 3CD + DVD package for $17 was a pretty attractive deal.

Oh, and I didn't think to look for Caesaria whilst at the store. Although I am definately going to pick up more of her albums at some point. I said it before and I'll say it again: Magic Voice.

I wasn't chastising you for buying a Cafe Tacuba album....I was questioning your statement of I guess Cuatros Caminos is the next Cafe Tacuba album to get...to me you'd be better served picking up a second Cesaria Evora than a 2nd Cafe Tacuba. Just trying to be helpful ;)
