A History Of Violence is good. Ed Harris gives his best performance in 15 years, and William Hurt is tremendous, for about 7 minutes.

Also, on an unrelated note...Keira Knightley (as Domino) is ridiculously hot.

I watched The Hole a few weeks ago..... Well, I couldn't find a lust icon, but, yum.

Does anyone know why William Hurt seems to be featured in movies for five minutes or less?

Recently I count:

The Village
A.I. (Artificial Intelligence)

History of Violence

I saw this tonight and would definitely recommend it. The opening shot and sequence was especially strong (although I mistook McHattie for Lance Henrikson). Some of the editing seemed a little off at times though and I have to admit I thought I was watching In the Bedroom starring Aragorn during a couple of the scenes.

Exactly. I left the movie thinking I had seen In The Bedroom meets Kill Bill.

Speaking of Keira Knightley, there's a boob shot of her in the new issue of Esquire.

Agreed. I thought this film was way overrated. They didn't exploit the most interesting aspect of the story---how the family deals with Mortenson being an ex-killer thug. Instead, Cronenberg went for the gratuituous violence. I enjoyed the over-the-top performance by William Hurt, but I thought that time could have been better used dealing with the repercussions of daddy being a mobster. And the child actors were terrible. The young girl was probably the worst child actor I've ever seen.

The only problem I had with the movie was with the child actors. They could have been a lot better, especially the girl. Besides that, I thought it was a great movie. I liked how it ended too.

First time I saw Keira Knightley I thought she could be Natalie Portman's sister, which in the competitive world of actors would not be such a great thing since Portman was/is more well known.

But I don't really know that I see that great a resemblance anymore.

Yeah, she's hot

Keira Knightley looks like Delta Goodrem

[EDIT:] she is an Australian pop singer. Who sucks.

I think she went so far as to even be Padme's doppelganger in Star Wars Episode I.

That is correct.

I think she's far hotter, however.

I heard good things about History of Violence from a friend who saw it so I'm looking forward to checking it out.

I also heard pretty good things about Mirror Mask even though it's gotten some pretty bad reviews. I've always kinda had mixed feelings about Dave McKean's stuff, but I'd really like to see this, too.

I saw Serenity last night, and I thought it was great. It's just a really fun, goofy sci-fi movie like the Star Wars prequels should have been. Of course most people probably wouldn't enjoy it as much if they never watched Firefly, but I think it's still worth going to see.

I, too, saw Serenity, and thought it was great. I am curious, however, how a newbie to the show would take the movie. It looked like they did a quick job of introducing everyone's relationship at the beginning (e.g. the love between Wash and Zoe was pretty clear at the end of the "car chase" sequence), but...I'm biased.

I remember when watching the show, I wanted to start talking like them, "...Shiny..." and "...Goram..." and such, but looking back now, I guess I never did.

One of my coworkers who never saw Firefly saw it the other night and loved it - so I really think it could be a big word of mouth hit - even for people who have never seen the series. My guess is that not only will it do well in the long run in the theatre but it will also sell a ton of the DVDs - hopefully Studios don't see this as a new model for underpreforming TV shows though.

watched "the constant gardener" last night. the pharmaceutical drug storyline aspect was interesting, but it's kind of a chickflick in being a love story frought with activism responsibility... or whatever.

anyway, not a reflection per se, but the theater people didn't turn the light off in the entering hallway, and whenever the scene was darker/blacker, the light shone on the screen like a ghost obelisk from the netherworld. at times, it was the most interesting thing goin'

overall though, i liked the movie. not to give it away, but it ended more realistically than most movies nowadays.

I've never seen Firefly before, but Serenity was fantastic. It's one of those movies that could have been really bad if directed by the wrong person, but the characters and storyline were great.

IT WAS BETTER THAN STAR WARS.

P.S. Star Wars is for nerds. :?

i liked history of violence ok...i thought the acting was quite good - but as mentioned above, thought the ending was kind of weird - turned into Casino or something. The first half was great - especially Ed Harris - so underrated.
