So I collect the mail on Saturday, and among the various circulars and junk mail is an envelope from the ol' auto financing company. Since it's not one of those pre-paid postage deals, I figured I'd better open and read it.

Good thing.

It's a notice that they've sent a negative report to the credit agencies.

WTF???? It's not like I can ever miss a payment because it's set up for direct withdrawal.

Just got off the phone with customer service. Here's the scoop:

Apparently there's some deadbeat in Texas with the same first and last name as yours truly. Okay, it's not unfathomable that there's some deadbeat somewhere in Texas--it's a big state, lots of people, and from what I can gather from COPS, a likely place to find deadbeats. I also do not possess an uncommon moniker.

What blows my mind is this Texan deadbeat with my first and last name also has the same last four digits of my social security number.

So the auto finance company, in their infinite wisdom, sees matching name and last four digits of social filing bankruptcy and figures, that must be our guy up in Illinois.

You mind picking up my credit card payment this month to prove yourself?

No, but if you want to trade bills for a month...

That's pretty WTF'd up.
