Any fans of Bergman here? Should I watch this?

Yes, this is a great fucking movie. Some of his stuff can be kind of boring, but this one isn't. It's kind of depressing, because it's about looking back at your life...passage of time, things like that. I think, ultimately though, it ends on a positive note (if I remember correctly).

If you say you like it, people will think you're smart. Or pretentious. It's a fine line.

It's not his best, but nowhere near his worst either. I'd say it's closer to the former category. Have you seen Cries and Whispers? What Bergman films have you seen already? That could help me tell you which to see next.

I don't think I've seen any. This will be my first Ingmar Bergman experience. Do right by me.

Wild Strawberries isn't a bad place to start by him, but Seventh Seal may be better. Only see Cries and Whispers after seeing at least two or three other films by Bergman. Persona also isn't a bad place to start, but if you don't like highly metaphorical movies then I would stay away. After you've seen a good part of his work, watch Fanny and Alexander. It's definitely one of the best, or maybe THE very best. It's been a long time since I've seen it.

Are you an Antonioni or Tarkovsky fan?

The Seventh Seal was one of those rare occasions where I finally got around to seeing something I'd always heard was one of the greatest things ever and it totally lived up to the hype in spades.

The Passion of Joan of Arc was another one of those. And the play Waiting For Godot.
