Today's New York Observer has an article about the PFM phenomenon.

This should stir up some conversation.

The author must have posted it herself, because it ran in today's Observer.

Interesting. I think that, while PFM might have helped promote Arcade Fire (I first heard of them through Jeph at Questionable Content, well before PFM's review), it's not clear how much you can attribute to their review. A 9.7 makes people want to go hear it, but does it make them like it? Similarly, a 0.0 rating for Travis Morrison (who doesn't wash his hands after peeing, by the way, ;) ) may be confirming people's independent opinions, not creating them.

i think that's the whole point.

can't remember when i first heard of pfm's site. i think sometime in 2001, but not sure. was (am) highly interested in fresh forms of music and liked reading the reviews. (don't make fun!)
