My morbid curiousity beat out my better judgement last week.

When you ask people whether you should go to a reunion or not, if they say yes, kick them where it counts and run.

I'll probably go to the 20th, lick my lips alot and ask people if they've got any coke. When they cut up lines in the bathroom, I'll pull out a fake badge and fuck their shit all up.

Mine is in November, but they want something like $80 to attend with no free booze. Fuck that bullshit.

Did anything interesting happen, or was it just a plain old bad time? My 10 year is rapidly approaching.

Holy mother of mary, you just made me realize my 20 is in 4 years. Holy crap.

I went to my tenth for the party the night before, that was fun. But I had no desire to go to the actual reunion. I saw the people I wanted to see at the party and that sufficed.

A couple years ago we seriously batted around the idea of swinging through South Baltimore and grabbing a couple of crackwhores to take as our dates.

Dressing as a hobo, crackwhores as dates. Keeping these ideas in mind when my 10 year rolls around in a few years.

Why did you have to crash your own reunion? Were you previously banned or something?

I had a blast at my 10 year reunion. Then again, it was me who had the 8-ball of coke. Good times!

I crashed my 20 year -- saw girls who had aged HORRIBLY, jocks who had gone bald and one dude who had plastic surgery. I laughed and immediately left for a much better party.

Are nOObs allowed to do this?

Now, Dunwoody Steve has one less leading-man to use as an avatar-screenname.

... In fact, when I saw the name on the main-page for rock/pop, I thought that Lester Burnam must be Dunwoody Dude's new name. No such luck.

This is... an abomination.

Sorry for the hijack.

I'm closer to my 20th than my 10th... but I went to my 10th andd it was an eye opener. I swear, everyone who didn't attend college had a bunch of kids around 9 it seemed. step 1: complete HS step 2: spurt out kids because you have no idea what else to do with your life.

Go to your damn reunions people. An hour or two every decade is an easy sacrifice to see how miserable those bastards and ex girlfriends are compared to you.

And renewing friendships is always good. The chance to do that with one or 2 people you used to hang with is reason enough.

I forgot it was even happening, and then i ran into our old student council president when i was getting breakfast in my hometown (visiting my little brother before he went to seminary), and I recognized her, but she had no idea who i was, and I made the mistake of saying hi. So she invited me to it, and gave me her business card with the place and date on it. So i e-mailed her, just out curiousity, but never got a reply, and then the day of came, and I didn't have a gig or a rehearsal, so I went.

It was ... wierd. I can't decide who's more fucked up, these people or me. They're all 28-ish, and alot of them look like they're either in their 40's, or their still in h.s./college. And I'm like, I know every single one of these people, and they all know me... but who the hell did i hang out with? Answer: none of them... none of my close friends had shown up. Some of my peripheral friends did though. And I quit drinking a couple of months ago, so I'm the only sober fucker at this clambake. I've been dieting so i can't eat any of the shit they're dishing out. So i get a cup of ice from the bar, and hit the water fountain, and all I hear all night is, "where did your hair go, you look SO DIFFERENT! I didn't even recognize you... blah blah blah". And I came to the conclusion that not only am I pretty abnormal right now, but i've always been abnormal. And that makes me a little sad, not that I want the kids, and the boring job, and the spouse and the house and coaching little league. But maybe at one point I did want those things, and I know that I can't be responsible and take part in those aspects of life because I choose to pursue music with every waking hour that isn't spent on teaching. It was nice to see maybe three people. But you can't really say we renewed any kind of friendship because we're all living such busy lives that we'll be lucky if we run into each other at the 20th.

So to sum it up, yeah, i guess i kind of feel like a schlub.

Man, I could go for a beer. Yeah, I know it's 5:43 in the morning. I'll have some black coffee instead.

We don't have that sort of thing here just because everyone follows the working class pre-destinies of Soldier/Prisoner/Single Mother.

It's not like you can ask, "So what do you do now?"

I went to mine in July. I reconnected with a few of the kids in the "smart people classes" I took...BUT..it was funny because I really DO stil hang with all of my friends from HS (or at least the ones worth getting in touch with) It was funny to see who came and who didn't, who had kids, etc...I definitely felt better about my station in life...and wished I brought white bag.

And I STILL wanted to get with this girl I sat next to in 11th grade english.

My 20th was coming up, but the response was so pathetic that the girl organizing it cancelled the whole thing.

I went to my 10yr in July as well. It sucked for the most part. Everyone I was hoping to see that I lost contact with didn't come and everyone there was mostly normal, so you couldn't really laugh at the poor slobs who got stuck in Norfolk, NE and are now fat.
The people who organized it did a dreadful job trying to find where people live now and were late in getting the invites out. I was hoping to hear more gossip about all my classmates who are now in jail for some sort of meth related crime and to see if any of my rather conservative classmates had came out of the closet.
Most of my classmates have kids and never went to indie shows on a regular basis, so all I could really do was talk about my job and getting a Master's Degree. The bar sucked because we had our reunion at a Golf Course, and small cities in Nebraska never have a good supply of microbrews or imports.
