Deerhoof is about to turn into one of the biggest indie bands of the year because of this review, where as previously, everyone knew about them but no one cared.

Good review for an enjoyable album. Word up Pitchfork.

I've given it a few listens, and it sounds pretty damn fine. I'll probably pick this up soon. There have been too many good new releases to keep up with latelly, though.

I'd recommend it if you like Philosophy of the World by the Shaggs, but Deerhoof are much more complex than that.

Also, the Boredoms, the more dissonant parts of Sonic Youth, the music of Captain Beefheart, etc.

I'd say they're one of the 3 best bands around right now. Make sure you get Reveille as well, if you go to pick up the new one.

Finally picked this up yesterday, and I really like it. I went home and listened to it twice straight through. Great album!

It's pretty frockin' fantastic, but not quite on par with Reveille.

Pretty much how I feel.

Having listened to it a few more times, I'm not quite as enthusiastic as I was at first. Still, I absolutely love the last song, "Rrrrrright", and quite a few others. There are a few dull spots, but it's a great album overall.

I am listening to this right now. In all honesty, I don't know what to think of it. Her voice can be equally annoying and enchanting at times. Sometimes here singing reminds me a little of Laetitia Sadier, mainly in terms of cadence. The music is consistently interesting. I don't know how often I would want to listen to this though. Maybe a few more listens are in the cards.

I definitely agree that it doesn't live up to Reveille, or maybe even Halfbird. It's just too conventional for Deerhoof (even though it would still be quite unconventional for most bands). It really is a great album, and one of my few favorites of the year, but repeated listens aren't as rewarding as their older releases because the songs are pretty easy to get into the first couple times.

Like most of you it seems I like this record well enough and would consider it great if most bands recorded it. Unfortunately, I have very high standards for Deerhoof and this record (though better than Apple O' in my opinion) isn't as exciting to me as most of their other work.

I like it. There are absolutely great moments where everything gels: crudeness, perfect recording, bombast. But there are listless moments that are less on the bizarre side of the things that make Reveille and Milk Man more memorable.
