I have no want or willpower to play piano, drums or guitar but I am in a desperate need to play some sort of instrument.

Is it easy to play, are the lessons easy? Are bass players a dime a dozen or are they sought after?

I know it's nothing like guitar (thank god) but is it still comparable?

So many questions.

Bass is as easy or as difficult as you'd like it to be. What kind of stuff do you want to play? Indie rock? Pretty easy. Funk? Not so easy, but doable, especially with lessons. Some people take to it really easily, and learn by copying other bassists off of albums, until they develop their own style.

Bass players are sought after.

It's comparable to guitar in that the four strings of the bass are the same as the four lowest pitched strings of a guitar, just an octave below.

Matt, you just need a Gibson EB-2, then you'll be flying all over the fingerboard, my diminutive friend.

< - - - feelings get hurt when his instrument is called, in effect, a guitar for those who ride the short bus. try playing some slap string bass some time.

a) the callouses
b) the vague disrespect from groupies
c) the lack of regard from the music press
d) the repetitive-ness in most arrangements
e) the impatience of band leaders ("but its so simple! why didn't you get it the first run-through? you're only playing one note at a time")
f) keyboardists who just double your part with thier left hand and call it done
g) guitarists, in general
h) drummers, in general
i) singers, always

But I wouldn't mind an EB-2 for Christmas.

AND WHAT THE HELL DO YOU MEAN "DIMINUTIVE"?!?!!?
