I just listened to Nada Surf's The Weight is a Gift, and must say I was quite pleasantly surprised. I hadn't heard much positive buzz about it, but I actually like it as a whole better than Let Go (which had a few super qual tracks but far too much filler disguised as warmed-over Coldplay, whereas this is more like a solid Death Cab album...unlike Plans).

I was told the single was pretty much all that was worthwhile.
WRONG.
It's a damn solid album, front-to-back.
And it still holds up, 15 years later.

I like it, but for some reason I haven't been getting the urge to go back and listen to it very often.

Maybe I should just skip the track with those Godforsaken "vocals" by the former Mrs. Black. I can't remember the last time I heard singing that bad.

not unlike Nico, i think it's bad in a way that works for the song.

I forgot we had Josh Rouse's Nashville.

Put it on this morning and fell in love with it. I never remember hearing much about it when it came out last year. There's something rather calming about the album, I actually hear a lot of what Ryan Adams has been doing last few months in this album.

I found it perfect for a windy fall morning.

I remain massively dissappointed in it. He made Dark End of the Street sound like New Orleans Ladies. Ugh. Maybe it was too much hype, but it bores me.

It came out early this year, and I'm pretty sure you'll see it in the Top 10 of me, Bloor, Derris, and many others come December. In fact, it'll be in my Top 5.

Oh, man, there's hundreds.

But one that springs to mind from a decade ago is Nick Cave's Murder Ballads.

I'd heard it was unlistenably horrific. First time I heard it I thought it was excessive and brutal, but a great album. still do.

More recently: Fiery Furnaces.

Every release has been called awful. I've liked every one (haven't heard the new one yet).

Huh. I thought it came out at the end of last year. Oh well.

Yeah, right now I've been replaying over and over "sad eyes". Song is just beautiful.

I don't even think I've bought five new releases this year but if I had it would be in there.

yeah, I've been shilling for this album to folks for a while. He's not ground breaking or "experimental" enough for a lot of tastes here but the guy has a knack for a great guitar pop tune. I dig it. Was my most played album through the 1st 6-7 months of this year.

I'll throw out The Shout Out Louds - "Howl Howl Gaff Gaff". I remember when that came out and folks were hot and cold with it. Some liked and some said that had only 1 or 2 decent songs. I think it's one of the better indie pop records this year.

Most of them. I just usually end up loving music more than others, or so it seems to me.

Years ago I picked up Ron Sexsmith's 'Whereabouts' and I thought it was going to be aweful. I still love that disc.

Catherine Wheel's 'Wishville' is something I play a lot too, despite the poor reviews.

I'm sorry. Why next time I'll make sure to throw some expletives and such around within my description to balance it out. Ok? ok

Love this band because they do so many things in each song, no one else does that and sounds that good but patience is a key. I’m staying away from the grandmother album as it sounds like a very bad experiment. The 2005 EP is great for throw away B-sides.

This album is pretty much hated by everyone but I feel it was the perfect direction to go after Ladies and Gentlemen. What is absolutely astonishing about this album are the lyrics. Jason was pretty much over losing Kate Radley to Richard Ashcroft and was able to write about different things. He will probably never match this songwriting again and Amazing Grace is so forgettable for such an accomplished talent.

There are many more because I tend to like albums that other say are rubbish.

I remember not too many people liking this initially. If I'm not mistaken, not too many people like it now. But I loved it on my first listen and it still remains one of my favourite SY albums.

I'm sorry, but this album is NOT weak. I find a new song every fucking time that I cannot stop listening to. I really do not understand liking the last album and not this one. IT PICKS UP RIGHT WHERE THE LAST ONE LEFT OFF! There is no difference.

And I'll 12th the Josh Rouse album. Thanks Derris. I've past that recommedation along to AT LEAST 6 people since I picked it up.

You know what Daddy like.

Neil Young - Stars and Bars. I always read that Like a Hurricane was the only good song on the album.
