so we're just sitting here watching TV less than a week in the new place, and the guy 2 floors up is going fucking crazy. We've heard him like every other night, sitting out up in the building's hallway, clapping. not to music. not to any discernable rhythm, just clapping. every once in awhile we hear snapping. it echoes. So right now he's screaming and throwing shit around. No like throwing a desk over and getting back to whatever made you so pissed, but like making an evening of screaming "motherfucker" at the top of his lungs while ripping apart cabinets and what I can only guess to be whacking his forehead on the metal pipes that run into our ceiling. Four of the five doors in the building just locked in unison. and the clapping just started again.

burn down the building.

Sweet. The girl on the 3rd floor in my building only checks her mail a few times a year. She finally took the cable bill that had been sticking out of her mailbox for the last 2 months.

Sounds like a qual place.

Who knows, he probably went off his meds (sounds schizophrenic). In college, we had this girl that lived next to us. Would yell and scream and cry all the time. Took us a while to figure out that no one was in there with her. Anyway.. one day she jumped through the window (it wasnt high, only about 1.5 stories up). Someone people said she was just looking for attention but when you jump through the window, I tend to give you the benefit of the doubt.

It's people like this that convince me that I'm sane.

He's either schizophrenic or tripping hard, but likely the former.

It's not just anger or he'd be taking it out on someone.

I went thru this a couple years ago, too....lady across the hall stopped taking her meds. When she was on them she was fine. When she wasn't...fucking hold on tight.

We're talking running up & down the hall screaming bloody murder, seeing people that weren't there, & posting pornographic pictures in her windows ( every cloud has a silver lining, dontcha know ) .

Even if that's NOT what's going on there the disturbance should be reported to the landlords ASAP.

hey, for all i know the dude was a Chrager's fan. I gotta give it at least a week, considering we didn't hear any freaking out (just the snapping, which is good ol' fashioned OCD) in the first week we were there...

my first thought.

I had a dude-type living on the first floor of a two family house. He'd come home from work everyday and blare Gram Parsons' "Love Hurts" like 30 times in a row and just sob and sob. One day he disappeared and his dad came and cleared out his stuff.

Not necessarily crazy, but just really, really sad.

Maybe someone asked him the classic zen question...and he's an imbecile?

he was sobbing last night for like 3 hours. I was out having a cigarette at like 3 in the morning and I heard a crash around back of our place (where we share a bigass patio with the crazy bastard). So I sprinted through my place (checking on my sleeping girlfriend in the process) and burst through the back door only to see a giant acorn-laden branch had crashed through a glass table. Oh, and he was still moaning in his bed.

THAT's the crazy part! When we moved in, this was the one dude who came out and shook everyone's hands and offered to help. He was polite and courteous and everything. Then he said "we'll have to hand out sometime and have some....coffee" and I knew shit had ugly potential.

I think he made the finger-twirling "cuckoo" gesture.

When I had mental asshole neighbours I just dubbed them almost to the point of oblivion at which point they moved away.

If you go down that route, which I have to say seems unlikely since you, yourself, don't like the genre, I'd particularily recommend 'Tappa Zukie in Dub' or pretty much anything by The Aggrovators.
