On an even more basic level than those instructions, what is the "deal" with soulseek, meaning what does it offer? I have seen it mentioned here a lot, but never really looked into it much. Worth the while?

it's a decentralized p2p where you can pick'n'choose who DL's from you. it's supposedly also an "underground" p2p with more indie-type of choices to find.

I don't know much about SLSK, but Limewire-type "decentralized" p2p's don't have an "off" switch -- once the software has been distributed, it works between users w/out any help form the Limewire Corp. or central hub.

So even if these p2p's fold, the software you have already downloaded will presumably still work. Limewire just wouldn't be allowed to develop and distribute new versions of its software. Of course, you will probably still be able to get the existing versions thru p2p!

It will be interesting to see if, because of this, the fact that any/all Limwire-type p2p's folding will have any practical effect at all on users.
