so at work we've set up a betting pool to pick the top 10 of this 885 album countdown on the radio station we listen to in the office. It's an NPR affiliate, and has all the AOR formatting crapfest that you'd expect, and then some. Anyways, I've gotta submit what I think will be the top 10, and I figure y'all can help better than anyone. so far I'm thinking:
-Highway 61
-Dark Side of the Moon
-Born to Run
-Pet Sounds
-Revolver
-Blue
-Blood on the Tracks
-London Calling (maybe?)

or something like that. Any ideas? The albums they've already played are searchable here

they're already cheating by using the internet when I'm doing something that's nowhere near my computer. bastards.

Velvet Underground and Nico. Usually Blonde on Blonde is the list picks for top Dylan albums. Exile on Main St?

Maybe I'm not getting the station's format, but I'd bet that Sgt. Pepper's, Darkside and Led Zep 4 are the top 3.

Others that could be there:

Nirvana - Nevermind

Sex Pistols - Never Mind the Bollocks

Marvin Gaye - What's Goin On

I wouldn't write off a couple of Beatles albums being there (Rubber Soul, White Album)

Jimi Hendrix - Are you Experienced?

Who's Next

Songs in the Key of Life, though I think Innervisions is better.

Fleetwood Mac, Rumours

Nirvana was like #120
VU & Nico was above 100.

It's really hard when you pretty much have to remove anything you wouldn't play in front of your grandmother.

I might put blionde on blonde and 61 in there for safety. Dylan's already got 16 fucking album in this thing. Genesis has 10. So does Neil Young. They've listed like 2 Steons albums so far. Maybe 3 Zep ones.

Yeah, no WAY are the Pistols gonna be that high. This is NPR, fer Chrissakes...their token "punk" album that high on the chart will be London Calling.

I agree with making "Sgt. Peppers" the Beatles choice for the Top 10.

I would throw Revolver in there as well for sure, probably above the White Album and Rubber Soul as far as these lists typically go.

Here's the Top 25 from Rolling Stone. I would think the lists would be somewhat comparable:

1. Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, The Beatles
2. Pet Sounds, The Beach Boys
3. Revolver, The Beatles
4. Highway 61 Revisited, Bob Dylan
5. Rubber Soul, The Beatles
6. What's Going On, Marvin Gaye
7. Exile on Main Street, The Rolling Stones
8. London Calling, The Clash
9. Blonde on Blonde, Bob Dylan
10. The Beatles ("The White Album"), The Beatles
11. The Sun Sessions, Elvis Presley
12. Kind of Blue, Miles Davis
13. Velvet Underground and Nico, The Velvet Underground
14. Abbey Road, The Beatles
15. Are You Experienced?, The Jimi Hendrix Experience
16. Blood on the Tracks, Bob Dylan
17. Nevermind, Nirvana
18. Born to Run, Bruce Springsteen
19. Astral Weeks, Van Morrison
20. Thriller, Michael Jackson
21. The Great Twenty-Eight, Chuck Berry
22. Plastic Ono Band, John Lennon
23. Innervisions, Stevie Wonder
24. Live at the Apollo (1963), James Brown
25. Rumours, Fleetwood Mac

Do not underestimate the large, and mostly white appeal of The Eagles.

Also, Tom Petty.

That South Park album with "Salty Chocolate Balls" on it

No, seriously, you've got to have the following Beatles albums on there:

Sgt. Pepper's
Revolver

led Zeppelin IV
Who's Next
Rumours
Dark Side of the Moon
something by Jimi -- either Electric Ladyland or R U Experienced?
Pet Sounds
either Let It Bleed or Exile on Main St.
London Calling

I think that's 10.

Hey, let us know what transpires, see who here got the closest.

Then next year, trust them.

Please tell me these are mostly pre-self-titled, right?
