Help me Obner-wan, you're my only hope! Well, not really, but why not start here?

Here's an unusual situation: my dad lost the hearing in one ear to a strange virus about 10 years ago. Since then, normal everyday things like watching TV is difficult because he isn't able to filter out background noise like he used to. He found some headphones a long time ago that use a transmitter from the TV which sends the audio signal to a wireless infrared headset. He's replaced the unit he has a couple times, but now he's having a hard time finding a replacement. I know there are some better units out there that use Bluetooth, but I'm looking for some user advice. The important things to consider are that he doesn't care if they don't work well for jogging, etc. - he sits on the couch and listens to the shows he's watching. He'd like them to be as un-bulky as possible, and told me he doesn't like the ones that have all the controls on the ear pieces, which seems to be a lot of them. Any advice?
