I would appreciate some insight on the following situation that happened to me recently.

Saturday evening I spent some time with a friend of mine who is a female. There is some history between us, but we are just friends now. We were not alone but accompanied by another friend of hers, also a female. At one point while I was there, the female whom is specifically my friend and I were both sitting on a couch next to each other and she placed her hand on my leg. While it was there, she occasionally rubbed it a bit and squeezed it a bit. Then she took my hand and interlocked it in hers and we were then holding hands. The rest of the evening did not involve anything as suspicious as this. The real confusion comes from the fact that she is involved with someone and very in love with him. Also, I at the time was also in a relationship and she does not seem like the type of person who would cheat or be promiscuous.

Basically I am looking for answers to the following questions:

Is this considered flirtatious behaviour?
If you are a female, would you do this to a male friend of yours if you were seeing someone else?
If you are a male, how would you see this situation?

I would appreciate all thoughts on this even if they are all very similar.

Thank you.

Yes, I guess this was flirtatious.

Maybe she's not as in love as she claims, and is looking to defect.

Of course it doesn't make sense.

Uh, yeah.

Maybe. But not if I was all stoked about seeing someone else and it was a non-cheatin' type relationship.

If I was a dude and not interested I would decide firmly that it was friendly, affectionate hand holding and nothing more. I would act accordingly, pretending extreme denseness if required but never, ever discussing it. If I was interested I would say hey, is it alright if I kiss you?

flirtatious? yes

does it mean anything? probably not.

i'll assume she's never done anything like this before, which makes it kind of weird, but she was probably just feeling affectionate. i'm very close with all of my male friends, and we engage in this behavior quite often. i can see it being confusing if it's the first time she's done this, but i wouldn't think too much of it unless she tries to pull some major moves on you. :)

i judge flirtatious behavior based on whether my wife would murder someone for the alleged flirtation - and she would definitely kill a chick who rubbed my leg and held my hand.

Was alcohol involved? I've found that wine, mixed drinks, or beer often explains this type of behavior out of the blue.

Don't read too much into it. It was just some harmless fun of the "sewing wild oats" variety...

You missed your chance, dude. If you ever try to recreate the situation, she'll be like all, "wha...?!?!" and indignant and stuff. Don't even think it.

And her friend will deny to the point where you will wonder if it actually happened.

Either that, or maybe she was trying to warm you up for her friend.

Or maybe she wants a threesome.

OK, I've got one.

A girl I know put her head on my shoulder for most of this mornings lecture. She hadn't fainted or died.

Does this mean she's attracted to me or was she just using me as something to lean against?

isn't this where the discussion comes up about how
guys and girls CAN'T be friends unless at least one of
them has an ulterior motive for the friendship?

Sure.

But who's going to fake the orgasm at the cyber-cafe?

You have seats that allow you to sit that close? In that instance, I would say she's interested.

Work that Scotsman's mojo, then, Darrin... And, yeah, it's cliche, but it's gotta include a kilt, commando beneath.
