I liked it, and posted about it. I thought Ed Harris and Billy Hurt were excellent, and Cronenburg made an enjoyable, suspenseful film with just the right touch of shock value (i.e. shot faces and what not)

I love a movie like that. If there were more of them, I'd be in the theatres more often.

I was just commenting the other day about the lack of sex scenes in most movies these days. It was nice to see a director put a few back in there, even if one of them was pretty disturbing.

A friend of mine told me that it's like a Steven Segal movie with better dialogue, so I skipped it.

Ha!

I think you might enjoy if you give it a chance. It's far better than the Segal movies I have seen.

Not a bad film, but being far overrated by most. There was such potential, but ultimately it went for the money gore and violence shots instead of digging into the more interesting aspects of the characters and the story. Yeah, daddy/Viggo used to be a bad-ass mobster and could kill with his thumbs---we get that the first three times we see it. Although I liked W Hurt's performance, I thought that last 20 minutes was gratuitous and completely unnecessary. I think it would have been far more interesting to see how the family dealt with this fact and attempted to work it out (or not). As it was, the last 1 minute scene at the dinner table felt really forced to me. I thought that was really the meat of the storyline.

And like I said in a previous thread, the child actors were probably the worst I've ever seen.

i thought it was okay, but i really had no idea what it was about beforehand. it did bring up some interesting theories, though. i liked discussing what it was trying to get across afterward too.

I also had no clue what it was about going in, but I really enjoyed it. I liked the slow pacing and the way the abrupt flashes of violence really broke away from it briefly--it made them a lot more interesting. Also, the sex scenes were used well, i.e., they were actually used within the context of the movie.

I can't recall ever seeing William Hurt play a villain before until this movie.

I liked it. One of Cronenburg's better movies (way, way better than Spider).

I also thought it ended a little quickly and in the wrong place, but that could have more to do with the source material. The graphic novel really doesn't seem like anything special.

I love how the movie ended. The director was just like, "There ya go, bitches!"

Well said. My expectations were much higher for this film.
