seriously.

i've killed about 7 big and ugly spiders over the past several months. but this is getting ridiculous.

the one i just killed was VERY big and furry. (with leg span.....it's was as wide as my finger is long.....)

i've lived here 3 years now and have NEVER had this problem before. :?

I like 'em. I only kill 'em when I see eggs.

My back patio is inhabited by a legion of black widows- I have to keep my eyes open when I step out there to have a cig. About once a month, I get pissed and Raid their asses, but it never lasts long. Fuckin' desert.

I really like spiders. Tarantulas intrigue me to no end.

Please read this about black widders: http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.c ... 01&sc=1000

I was lying on my bedroom floor about two weeks ago, surfing Obner, when to my left I glimpsed a green-white spider crawling on the carpet. It was a bit larger than my thumbnail, but inoffensive. I still got the heebie-jeebies and vowed to kill it.

A week later, I saw it on the ceiling... And smashed it with a rolled up newspaper.

As to why it spooked me - I am not typically afraid of spiders, but the one I saw did not resemble any of the "harmless" pest-controlling ones to which I had grown accustomed.

here definitely. there was a story on the news awhile back that it was due to our last few mild winters - no freeze to kill the eggs.

I love spiders -- they kill (and eat) the other bugs. [cookie monster voice]Leave 'em alone.[/cookie monster voice]

Yeah I usually try to set spiders free whenever I see them around, especially daddy longlegs.

The only creatures around here that actually scare me are bees and wasps. Spiders don't really scare me at all because they're actually good for pest control and most are harmless.

just 'cause we actually have land-dwelling fauna, doesn't make us uncivilised.

And as far as huntsmen go around here, that one was comparatively small.

Seriously wtf is that? Unless its two spiders, I count like 16 legs. That would scare the crap out of me.

There are spiders that are commonly called "daddy longlegs" and then there are actual daddy longlegs, but the term has become pretty much acceptible for both.

My apt. has an overabundance of these:

one crawled up out of my garbage disposal last night while I was doing dishes. I sent him to hell, though.

we had tons of these this summer, they seem to be gone now.
I suspect the massive mosquito infestation gave rise to their
prosperous season.

Even if it is two spiders, it still would scare the crap out of me. Those two could take out a small cat...

ha I just saw this thread. Funny my name gets brought up, what do I instantly get associated with spiders now? lol

Yeah, they were everywhere outside our balcony doors this summer. Not that I ever go outside the doors seeing as we live 21 floors up and I'm horribly afraid of heights. But we had some huge ones that took residence on that door much to the amusement and frustration of our cats.

And Rparis is right, I heard the same thing that there was something to do with the weather and that this past summer there were more of them then usual.

And I never kill them either and I keep having to tell my co-worker who is afraid of them the not to, it's bad karma to kill them. I just try to free them if they're indoors.
