1) The three bands: Immaculate Machine, Destroyer, New Pornographers - all absolutely rocked. Each bad was tight, few mistakes, and none of the songs were duds. Ridiculously good 3.5+ hour show.

2) Carl Newman is very, very gay.

3) Neko Case is very, very hot.

4) Dan Bejar is drunk all the time, most notably at the second encore. He sang every NP song (they brought him out at 4 different times for 4 songs) with a pint in hand, and during "Jackie" he actually tried to take a drink while singing. Very impressive. His Destroyer show was spot on, however, and he didnt make a fool of anyone/himself.

5) Immaculate Machine was surprisingly good. I guess their keyboardist/female lead is Neko's replacement when Neko doesnt tour, and she actually played with them also on this show. Mates Of State meet White Stripes with a littel Fiery Furnaces thrown in.

6) New Pornographers don't stray from the script at all. Absolutely no solos/improvisations/extra riffs/wasted notes. I enjoyed the sheer sonic volume and spot-on musicianship, but sometimes its nice to have a little change of pace. Still, their music is some of the most fun out there (IMHO) and it works best loud. They do it well.

7) This was the largest collection of effeminate white males I've seen ever...and I've been to an outdoor arena show by the Indigo Girls. No black people, maybe about 10 straight guys, and surprisingly not many hot girls.

yeah, it was a very good show. and the drummer for destroyer/new pornographers was one of the best drummers i've seen in a while.

my only complaint is that destroyer should have had a keyboard player.

did you hear dan at one point in the destroyer set mumble "where am i?"

Yeah, Kurt Dahle is the drummer, and the new record is pretty much his coming-out party, I think. And Im not sure why Thurier didnt play keys with Destroyer. They had a pretty good sound but could always use a keyboard player.

edit: apparently the singer/keyboardist for Immaculate Machine/NP is Newman's teenage niece.

i missed this show, and now i'm doubly kicking myself. cat power the night before was lovely though. she even stayed on stage the whole time.

my girlfriend is from vancouver, so she's seen destroyer probably around 15 times. she said this was the worst destroyer show she's ever seen.

i thought it was fantastic. if this was a bad night, i can't imagine a good night.

I think that if you dont like NP, then you dont like guitar-heavy, loud, harmonized, pop/rock music as a whole, cause they are doing the best version of it out there.

Nuff said.

I saw the show in philly a few weeks back with my lady...I'm not a New porno fan at all, but it was a pretty decent show...We arrived late and only saw the pornographers, but yeah..Dan Bedjar was pretty drunk during the pornos set when he came out for a few songs..He had a different drink everytime he came back on stage about 4-5 different times during their set....Dude was having a good time..

I didn't think Neco looked that great that night, but she does have one hell of a hot stage presence...

Neko seems dettached from the NP. Did you them on Subterranean? Nico seemed bored and she wasn't even in their video.

read the story in the last Magnet magazine re: Neko case and her role in the New Pornographers - sounds like she has alienated much of the band.

Yes, you are right. I wonder if they would do another record with her. Now that they have Kathryn.

i'd have to disagree.
i like that kind of music, and they just miss the mark for me.
i like, but don't come close to loving them.
