This really sucks.

I'm no computer engineer. I don't do coding for fun. I just want to get this new version of Soulseek working on my laptop. The latest version of the slsk program assigned me a new "listening" tcp port of 22129 which apparently is CLOSED after doing a port test so "your router and/or Soulseek client needs to be configured correctly". Apparently there's a long-winded guide at The Port Forward Help website here: http://www.portforward.com/ but really, I can't make much sense out of it.

Any suggestions?

If so, explain it to me like I'm a fourth-grader which apparently I still am.

I have no idea.

The answer is probably. In any case, I have no idea on how to change the settings for this only that it was A REAL BITCH to set up a D-Link Di-714P+ brand wireless broadband router so that my laptop could gain internet access anywhere around the house.

It took a computer expert friend of mine literally 4 hours to figure out how do work it and then after he left I had to call D-Link's technical service hotline and struggle with them for two more hours to get things right.

Now, my question is: Will I jeopardize my internet connection through my wireless broadband router if I go screwing around with TCP port settings and forwarding to static IP addresses?

If there is even a possibility of this being yes then fuck this Soulseek program.

I'm no help here but I will say that I had a similiar experience with a D-Link Router; their tech people suck. I never did get it working, bought a Belkin and it worked fine right out of the box.

BTW, south pacific, you need to credit that quote in your sig. ahem.

You know what's weird?

When I go to that ethernet broadband router page for my D-Link Di-714P+ the options for the virtual server are completely different. For example there's no field for "ID" or "service ports".

Anyways, it's working now guys. Thanks for your help.

....and Bloor, I've got your credit right here, pal.
