so, i think we might be getting 2 free tix to the Pixies/Burma show on Thursday night. the catch: we might have to pay.

the other, more important catch: i really want to go to a smaller show with my friends Night Rally and the Helms, a band i haven't seen live yet, but i love their recorded output. this will be a really fun show, i'll get to hang out with my friends, a new friend i've been trying to see more of lately, and just have a plain old good time.

so, Pixies/Burma or Night Rally/Helms?

think of it as old boston vs. new boston. :)

When the choice is between being an observer or being a participant, I say always go with the latter.

i'm sure that you've seen the pixies in boston before. how much did you like that? because i expect that the crowd for that show would be enough to keep me away.

Go with the latter. You'd probably have a better time.

oh yeah, added caveat: the hook-up is via my gal, who really wants to go.

actually, the cool thing about the tix: the guy giving them to my gal is her old boss, this doctor who started a medical consultancy. the guy's a total nut, ridiculously rich (his dad was the dean of harvard med), but you can go out, get drunk with him (on his tab), and he will tell you why he thinks XTC are better than any other band in the 80s. i mean *any* band.

actually, it'd be a lot of fun to go to a show with him, alas.

Boozin' on someone else's tab. Easy. Get real drunk and you can make all kinds of new friends.

Y'know, even though I don't believe it, I think I could win a debate with that as my proposition.

I voted for Pixies/Burma but only if you get free tix. Otherwise I'd go with the latter. I'm sure you'll have plenty of other chances to see Night Rally & Helms tho.

The first point you'd try to make would be countered with three words:

"Oranges And Lemons"

<=== vehemently argues that XTC as "XTC" blew their load on Black Sea--although I'll grant points for The Dukes of Stratosphear and Andy's early 90's work on Martin Newell's "Greatest Living Englishman".

As a Bostonite, just ask yourself, "What would Willie Alexander do?"

I voted Pixies. Night Rally and Helms are both awesome, but it's the Pixies!! Even 14 years too late! Plus, if, uh, LadyKPH prefers one, and you seem conflicted, that seems like a reason to decide right there. You'll have many chances to see Night Rally and Helms again.
I'm going tonight, I'll let you know how it is.

P.S. I was scared at first this was going to be that "should I cheat on my girlfriend?" thread. ;)

P.P.S. If she's lurking, that was a joke.

well, as it happens, i think dude millionaire is going to be charging face value, which we're not down with. although, i think LadyKPH is going to pull the "but dude, you're a millionaire, and we're not...give them to us for free ya cheapskate!"

i'll keep y'all posted.

I thought it was "What Would Willie Horton Do?", but I guess I might just be a lil' too '88 for this board...
