Why? - Elephant Eyelash and Portastatic - Bright Ideas


Im enjoying both of these, although they couldnt be any more different. Why? is also cLOUDDEAD, I believe, and this disc is, IMHO, his most listenable release. Some genuinely poppy numbers on here, although it is rather glitch-happy music with a 'hip hop' flavor (not much of one, though)

Portastatic is more straight-ahead pop/rock, heavy on the guitars...Mac Macaughan's (sp?) other band, Superchunk, hasnt made a record that I have really listened to in maybe 12 years, but this one caught my attention pretty quickly. Very listenable fuzz/jangle/"power pop" if it must be classified. Won't blow anyone away with the lyricism, I dont think, but overall, very well done.

That Portastatic is quite good, indeed. One of the more pleasant surprises of the year!
